I’m bringing a dish for a potluck in a week. OT, but why do some people say that they will bring anything and then balk when the hostess suggests a category? So annoying. But it was suggested that I bring the brownie/chocolate chip bars that they always have at Aldi’s.
Anywho, I like Aldi’s canned beans, French bread pizza. I like their extra sharp cheddar cheese. I like the pizza crusts they have also. I always have a big container on their pretzel sticks on my counter. They have good prices on eggs and organic milk and half and half so I always buy that. I buy the guacamole singles and hummus. I buy the brioche hamburger buns and they have naan bread. (Which I wouldn’t buy if I could get decent pita bread where I am). They have great dark chocolate, the dark chocolate almonds are so good!
I probably buy more but that’s a list of the things I can remember
We buy the Aldi large pizza…and add veggies, and more cheese. Then cook. It’s delicious. You can “dress it up” any way you like.
Their milk and egg prices can’t be beat. I buy all of my holiday cookie ingredients there.
Their salad dressings are good too! Last week I got a package of Kale salad that came with a sweet spicy dressing. I’ll be getting that again soon. Their packaged Caesar salad is very good too.
Their Fit and Active line is very good. I really like the yogurt.
Thank you for some really specific suggestions. I will make a list of things that I’d like to try and try a few at a time!
And I’ll be honest - whether it’s right or wrong - I DO feel like I know some people here - I’ve been here since 2007 - so thats 12 years of knowing some posters. And talking with them more than I talk to some family!
I eat low carb, so I wish I could buy those delicious chocolates and chocolate covered cookies, I don’t.
My Aldi list is made of things that cost a lot ore elsewhere, or just aren’t as good elsewhere.
organic spinach
organic avocados
other produce if it looks good, and berries
chia seeds
frozen cauliflower rice
coconut oil and ghee
baking chocolate powder (unsweet)
string cheese
eggs (I prefer local farm eggs but fill in at Aldi where they’re under $1)
half and half
plain greek yogurt
nuts of various kinds
butter
Grass fed organic ground beef
Salmon (normally don’t like farmed salmon but the Aldi one from Argentina is really good)
I get other stuff if it looks good, occasionally. Guacamole, dips, chips, coffee.
I just noticed (looked at it actually because of the plastics thread here) and their cotton swabs have a paper stick that feels and holds up like a plastic one. Other than that, I get a lot of their protein bars, crackers and snacks, product and canned goods. Sometimes they have wonderful limited edition things to try too. I have not been disappointed by any of them. Their yogurt isn’t as good as Chobani though.
Avocado oil, graham crackers, wheat thins, organic milk, cheese, almond milk, greek yogurt, Kitchen items that come on sale in their specialty section of household items. (wooden spoons, wok, fry/crepe pan, plastic storage containers, 12 microfiber cleaning clothes for $4.99) Fruits and vegetables that come on sale. Green tea bags, Paper towels, dishwashing detergent, paper bowls, paper plates, recently purchased bamboo bath mat.
I typically shop at 3 stores. Aldi is for certain staples. I buy milk (lactose free) and eggs and sandwich cheese, shredded cheeses, butter, sandwich meat, sandwich bread, certain canned goods and sour cream because they consistently have it, it tastes essentially the same and the price is cheaper (sometimes significantly) than our traditional grocery store. I’ll buy somethings there because they are available and unique. I tend not to buy meat there since we are empty nesters and I only like to purchase what I need. Adli normally sells it in too large of quantities. I’ve purchased Aldi brand mexican beer there before and it’s a decent substitute for Corona and $2 less. I find their vegetables to be similar in quality to our local Kroger but a better value. Whether I buy there or not depends on how much I have to buy. Sometimes fruit such as berries etc are a better buy there. I figure I save about 20-30% at Aldi’s vs. similar products at Kroger. It’s significant enough to make the trip.
By the way, I’ve read a lot about Lidl lately. A few have opened, more coming. I compare Aldi to Trader Joe’s of course, but LIDL is not owned by the same family, totally different chain, though also German.
