Your Favorite Specific Product At Aldi's

Yes, In Germany!! ???. We just picked up some things there so no real comparison yet.
Funny thing is I used to hate Aldis and now it’s my go to when I just need a few things but that always ends up with me buying a lot more and look over there… Something for the backyard that I don’t really need but will most likely get… Lol.

Their weekly Aldi find’s are interesting. I always manage to find something useful in that aisle.

I have a Lidl just a short distance from my Aldi’s and I usually go to Aldi’s. Lidl has a larger variety of produce and it always looks very good. Also, the fresh flowers there are a really great value. They also have a bakery with trays where you reach in and select the number of items you want. They also have bins of non-grocery items such as gardening tools, clothing, bath items, etc. I still mostly shop at Aldi’s because the store is smaller and I can get through it faster. The prices are lower on almost everything. Neither place bags purchases and checkout is fast in both. I think maybe Lidl has more name-brand items. Lidl is larger and has more choices, so if you are a browser in the grocery store this may appeal to you. I get most of my basics at Aldi’s and Costco and go to Wegman’s for the items that neither of them carry.

Thanks. One is near where my D is moving next month so we’ll check it out.

I think the reason I like Aldi’s and Trader Joe’s is that they are small stores. I can get what I need quickly and be out of there. I don’t want to spend the whole weekend running from one shop to another for everything or walking up and down numerous aisles trying to find something.

Went to a party and one person made brownies from Aldis brand mix and they were delicious. DD gets the small avocados since one of he small ones is all she wants at one sitting.

DH likes their lite cheese spread wedges that are like Laughing Cow’s. He actually prefer’s Aldi’s version. I buy their almond milk and when I can find them, their German specialties. I also really enjoy their frozen Tuscan grain and Cous Cous vegetable mixes but they are not always available.

My cousin loves the store. Only way she can afford to buy organic products in the volume she wants.

Y’all have inspired me. I’m going to check out an ALDI that’s near the dermatologist’s office tomorrow when I’m done.

The bacon is great, although we don’t buy their other meat (I know it’s fine, but I have some kind of mental block about it). The milk and eggs are good and also cheap.

They have 100% maple syrup, which is a huge difference from the fake stuff and way cheaper than other stores. I also like the blocks of cheese (jalapeno, cheddar jack, etc.) – makes great cheese cubes for parties without the weird powder you sometimes get on premade cheese cubes. The shredded or sliced cheese is also good.

I will say, the Aldi-brand cereal isn’t the same as the name brands, and the granola bars tend to have “rougher” bits of oats (if that makes sense). I don’t mind them, but you will notice a difference.

Reporting back. DS enjoyed the prosciutto I got and I bought some of the store-branded sparkling Grapefruit water and it’s fine - no better or worse than my normal LaCroix, just different. Produce was pretty beaten up. I looked without success for the frozen Asian dumplings.

Does every ALDI carry the “entire line” of frozen food or is there regional variation? The sign in the produce section did say that they buy locally.

There is some calazone that I would not buy. It’s in the frozen section and we got it for my son for a fast lunch. I looked at the salt contents and it was like 1,500 of sodium. I took it back.

I expect that there is some regional variation.

My D calls me while she shops at Aldi’s. She has a smaller store than mine and different products

There is variation from store to store. DH shops at an Aldi on his way home from work. They often have different selection than the store nearer to our home.

It seems like they stock what sells in each location.

For fruits and vegetables, bread, and dairy I find it’s best to go first thing in the morning when all the shelves are fully stocked. On weekends especially a lot of it gets sold so if you go later in the day you will find some shelves empty.

If you look on youtube for flavcity with Bobby Parrish he has videos on his recommendations on what to buy from each store. (Aldi’s, Costco, Trader Joe’s, Whole Food’s)

We split our shopping between a local family-owned grocery store and Aldi. There are some products I buy at Aldi if I’m heading there (Milk, which is cheaper only at BJ’s, sour cream, eggs, etc). Others I now only buy at Aldi (except in a pinch). Those include greek yogurt (singles) - typically the toasted coconut singles (65 cents vs. 1.00 if on sale anywhere else), and the bigger tub of honey-vanilla greek yogurt (not all stores carry this, as I discovered on vacation earlier this month). I often buy strawberries and other fruits, because they are cheaper than anywhere else, prepared salad kits too. Veggies when the local farm stands are closed.

Not only regional variation but the two within 15 miles of me carry some different things too. Some stuff is always at every Aldi I’ve seen, though.

Plus Aldi’s has a lot of seasonal items, just like Trader Joe’s – so as soon as you find something you like, it’s gone! :frowning:

The fresh mozzarella balls in water/brine - not the ones in marinade and not the wrapped ball. I like their texture and flavor best.

Well, I went CC shopping at Aldi’s today. Armed with many of your suggestions and some from a Hungry Girl podcast I listened to I picked a variety of items to try.

Will have to update once I try some things.

I’m not a huge can goods person but did pick up a few things to try - and the prices were excellent: tomato paste, garbanzo beans, red enchilada sauce.

Also:
The chocolate brand @thumper1 recommended - in bar form and truffles! (so cheap!)
Individual guac servings
Layered bean dip
Cashews w/sea salt
Brownie mix
Toasted coconut yogurt
Pork Burnt Ends (Hungry Girl recommendation)
Salad mix - I like the Dole Sunflower one and they had nearly identical
Spreadable butter
K cups for the machine at work - hoping these are decent - like $3.49 for 12! (k-cups imo aren’t a stellar cup of coffee anyway but I’m also not too picky - it’s the only machine we have at work)
