Just rented a tuxedo for prom for $200… Not a good deal. However, I was just talking to a friend and thinking that with Jos. A. Banks’ buy one get two free deal, I could take her boy and mine, buy two tuxedos and a suit and beat the rental price. The tuxedos go for about $550 and divided buy three, it isn’t bad.

I bought my tux used, from a tuxedo rental place. Might not be available during prom season though.

I buy my tux shirts on-line, I just got a couple for $13 each. They are not the highest quality but they are good enough, and the jacket covers 95% of the shirt anyway.

J C Penney (now JCP) has tuxedos for $140. I’m not sure how the quality compares to Jos. A. Banks. Some guy named royaleclothing is selling new vests with ties for $19.99 on ebay, which includes shipping. He has many colors available. We received it 3 days after ordering, and the quality was fine.

I wanted a large lightweight bag for travel, something for on the plane and that I could carry over my shoulder, hold a bottle of water and digital camera along with all the usual purse stuff. On my third visit to TJ Maxx I found a Tyler Rodan tote - this bag [TYLER RODAN Jasmin Large Tote - Zappos.com Free Shipping BOTH Ways](<a href=“No results for Tyler rodan jasmin large tote tyler | Zappos.com”>No results for Tyler rodan jasmin large tote | Zappos.com) in this print [TYLER RODAN Thistle Mini Tote Bouquet Print - Zappos.com Free Shipping BOTH Ways](<a href=“Tyler rodan thistle mini tote bouquet print tyler + FREE SHIPPING | Zappos.com”>Tyler rodan thistle mini tote bouquet print + FREE SHIPPING | Zappos.com). I paid $39.99.

Had to go buy white undies for the white tux. No great buy there either…

Sometimes I think I should start a separate “TJMaxx” Good Buy thread. :).

Found these today at TJ. SO comfortable! An alternative to my NewBalance tennis for everyday wear out for errands or walking the dog. A decent buy at $24.99 - so about half off original price and Nike ( and cute!)

I agree…TJ Maxx (and mine has a Homegoods section also) has saved me a lot of money on things I really needed and some I didn’t. : )
Just sending my daughter abroad, I haven’t seen luggage as cheap anywhere on sale, stores or online bargain sites, as I have there. A 29inch Samsonite 360 for 99.00 was great and 21inch for 69.00. My Fossil bag in an extensive online search was 75.00 at it’s lowest and that was final clearance and mine was 59.00 and no shipping at TJMaxx. Baggallini’s are a bargain and so much else. My daughter got a ski jacket under 20.00 on clearance and with a tiny tear that dropped it more.
It might be hit and miss at times, sometimes a lot of luck, but I would be very unhappy if it left.

I have had good luck with TJ Maxx for homegoods. Clothing, not so much. It’s geared more to younger, “hip” customers and I have trouble finding anything I’d wear or look good in. And shoes…great bargains but they have a small selection so generally the ones I like are not in my size. :(

Ah…the shoes are at MARSHALLS!!

Thank you, toledo, for the tip on the ebay prom vests/ties. It’s just want i needed for an upcoming event.

I agree Thumper, I don’t even bother to look at shoes at TJMaxx. I don’t find clothes for myself usually as far as “work clothes” but athletic, sweat pants, tops, bra tops, etc. are a steal there. When I ran a lot, I’d see running socks that sold for 8.00 a pair in running stores/catalogs for 3.99 and the shirts and tops are very reasonable. I got my daughter a dry-fit top we saw in another store for 19.99, 7.99 there. After that she was hooked.
I also find the mens department much more accomadating to older men than the women’s dept. is to the same age group, and pick up dress shirts, etc. on occasion.
My husband has found some beautiful jewelry in the past also, gemstones, silver, for gifts at a very good price which I wear proudly. : )

thumper, I also agree. I just bought a pair of boat shoes for my son that normally retail for $100. They were on clearance at Marshalls, so I ended up paying $45.

Ironically I was at TJMaxx yesterday buying some polos for the soon-to-be-graduatied-soon-to be-employed son and popped over to the shoe section. Found an adorable pair of Tahari open toed slingback wedge type shoes (the heel are rope corded like wedges but are more of a platform with heel shoe). They were $32. Remarkably comfortable. The wife of the couple we went out with last night loved them and plans to run over this morning to get a pair (I recall seeing a pair in her size). I think its hit or miss. Fortunately I hit!

Yes it is hit or miss, but sometimes you do hit a good deal. I remember a few years ago looking for a simple dress to wear to a wedding, black, knee length, and looked in all the usual Macy’s etc. I was so tired…and then I walked past the dress rack at Marshall’s going to buy some towels, and a pretty, simple wrap-a-round black dress was there, great look and 49.99! I got a pair of black sandals for 20.00 there, borrowed a clutch bag and it looked great. I have worn that numerous times and its been a favorite and my cheapest dressy outfit I’ve ever bought. I never would have looked if it didn’t catch my eye, but you never know.

The e-bay deal for vests and ties is a great deal. I just talked to a mom yesterday and her son owns a tux; he’s in band and they are required for the top concert band. To just rent a vest and tie cost her $60. We rented a tux for $170 but had a $20 coupon. My son opted for the $10 pocket scarf and then forgot to wear it. I have two sons that went to a total of four proms… that’s $600 on rental fees. Ouch!!

jym, you can find shoes there on occasion, but I do think that Marshalls is bettter for shoes. I have never even seen men’s shoes at our local TJMaxx. I don’t know if other stores do carry men’s shoes. I did purchase a pair of Soft Spot shoes (very comfy) for myself a couple of years ago at TJMaxx.

For those that need a tux, I saw that JC Penney had them for a reasonable price. I don’t recall how much it was since we do not need one, but I do recall that I was impressed with the price. Here is the link to items that they have online:

jcp

I rarely go to Marshall’s as the one closest to me is a bit shabby. I agree that I don’t recall looking for mens shoes at TJMaxx, but I have found nice shoes there on many occasions.

I bought a Peter Nygard jacket and sweater at Dillards at 40% off. The jacket had a small flaw, but it increasingly bothered me, so I decided to leave it at home, and wear something else. On the way back from graduation, I spotted a Dillards store from the expressway, so circled back to see if they had the jacket. They had one left, in my size, and it was just marked down to 65% off and sewn perfectly. Yay!

Before continuing my long trip home, I stopped at the local Starbucks, where frappucinnos were half price. The deal runs from 3-5pm until May 13th. What luck!

Oh cool! I thought that Frappe deal was just one day! Still a couple days to take advantage of it!!!

Congrats on the graduation!!! :)
