Your Good Buy Of The Day (Part 1)

@college1 I sure it will be, there just wasn’t any info on their web page about how to register or get an app yet, so calling was the best way for the moment.

@preppedparent - What thread is post #10917 meant for?

I did business travel to S Korea with a coworker who is a Hilton Member. I was able to use the lounges in the airport when with him and the lounge/bar at the hotel in Seoul. The lounge in Seoul was free for members and had free drinks and food. I never bought dinner the 2.5 weeks I was there. Not sure what the cost or number of overnight stays are needed for the perks, but it was well worth it.

@jym626 This one…it was my good buy of the day. Sunflower butter…healthy substitute for nut butter. Worth every penny.

My good buy of today is Trader Joe’s Mediterranean Chopped Salad. For about $2.99 per bag 2 - 4 servings these are all included salads. This one has sun dried tomatoes and feta and a nice red wine vinagraitte. Love Trader Joes…I’m late to the party, but am finding so many good buys. Oh yes, the rose oil hand cream for $4.99 tough to beat, if you’re a rose lover.

$2.50 for 2.5 pounds if pre-washed spinach st Costco! Also organic unbleached cotton covered polyester filled pillows @$3 off for a pair, so $15 for the twin pack. The covers are supposed to be allergy-control barriers.

Ah. It sounded like a recipe, @preppedparent

These lenox mugs had been on my wish list for the holidays but I never got around to buying them because they were out of stock.
They finally are back in stock at Macy’s at their lowest price. (under $20 for 4 mugs)
I had a reward card with some money on it so I just paid the difference which was 61 cents out of my pocket. Just a little treat for myself to make my morning tea more enjoyable.

I have some of the lenox mugs on back order since before Christmas. Looks like they may be coming soon. It will be a nice spring surprise.

@preppedparent - my D3 loves the sunflower butter from Trader Joe’s! She’s allergic to both peanuts and tree nuts but the sunflower butter is fine. She remembers loving peanut butter from before her allergies developed, and was nearly in tears the first time she had the sunflower butter.

@twoinanddone I had been looking at that one too but then this set of four came in. I just realized that those mugs would coordinate well with a set of dinner and lunch plates that I have been using for the longest time. ( that is just an added bonus for me)

I won a raffle 9/2017. Life got hectic and never redeemed it. I called them today apologetically and they’re happy to let me have my 2 night ocean view room at 5* hotel next month. Woot! That should be a lot of fun!

I returned some shoes and a sweater to Nordstrom today and FINALLY took pants I purchased at last year’s anniversary sale in to be hemmed.
I got some cute crop pants at Athleta for half off.
I got a free lobster flat bread and two glasses of bubbly at Season’s 52, because I joined their “club” and it is my birthday this week. I think I was supposed to get a free dessert too, but I didn’t want to complain.
I also got a free birthday gift at Sephora, and another (more likely to actually use) at Ulta.
Chico’s gave me $10 free, and I got a jean shirt marked down from $99 to $42, and with the $10 it was only $32. That said most of the stuff at Chico’s looks like it’s really for “old people” these days.
I don’t usually actually collect or use so many birthday deals, but since I was at the various places anyway, figured I might as well.
I’ve received several birthday restaurant deals, to places we actually go, but won’t be able to use them all before they expire.

I bought a super expensive sweater --$185 --unheard of as I buy clothes mainly from Amazon–at a local shop yesterday. I also bought a $39 necklace that is super artsy and a $99 long cotton dress like top that I now own in 3 colors and wear constantly. The $185 was tough and then the owner asked if I had received my birthday discount of 20%.
MM no, but my birthday was in August. She applied it and while I still spent more in one visit that I have in a year on clothes ( not shoes–they are even less) and am still sticker shocked I am thrilled. That sweater is going to take me from here to next Feb. Also am keeping a pair of red shoes from Zappoes.
H is always super happy when I buy anything and do not return it…
I also bought my GF who has no discretionary $ a $29 necklace. She is my rock and I love treating her.
I often spend more on her than on myself but it makes me so happy.

Got an email from hotel—room comes with complementary admission to several local attractions we have rarely/never toured, so that should add to the fun of the staycation. H and I are looking forward to the treat. We mostly avoid Waikiki, so it’s time to play tourist!

@HImom - it is fun to be a tourist in your own town! We did it years ago downtown Seattle to use up points we never used: went to the art museum and a fancy dinner, crashed in the room, woke up to a water view, then ate breakfast at the Market. Fun! Enjoy!!!

^Agreed. When my kids were little, we did staycations and did all the things tourist do when they vacation in a beach town, things I wouldn’t normally pay for in our day to day – go carts, trampolines, duck boat, jet skiing, fried clams and ice cream at the beach shack. These are some of my fondest memories because, after driving past these things every day and asking “why not us” it was always a treat to say…“make your list, we’re on staycation!”.

When the kids were in elementary and middle school we lived in a town that had over 90% free and reduced lunch. The town also had wonderful parks, one of which had a carousel, paddle boats, putt putt golf and tennis courts, another one had a swimming pool.

Every summer the library had a summer reading program where kids could earn fake money for every half hour they read. It did not matter how many pages they read in that half hour.

The park district donated passes for the various activities and the kids could buy them with their fake money. It made me feel better about not going on vacations (ever!) because the kids could earn their activities by reading. We could walk to the swimming pool and by 5th or 6th grade the kids were old enough to ride their bike to the park with the other activities.

It is great fun sometimes to do the local things, to find the things that bring others to your town.

Love staycations. They are so fun and relaxing and the best thing was that I got to come home to my own bed.

Since moving to San Diego, we have done tons of daycations and enjoy hanging out with the tourists. That’s one of the reasons why we moved here!
