Your Good Buy Of The Day (Part 1)

I’m getting ready to go on a business trip, so decided to add some books to my kindle. Used $12 in digital credits (from delaying prime delivery), then have been getting credits for “Great for Kindle” books each time I purchase. So far, I have added 5 books to my kindle & still have credit available! Plus added a couple of free for Prime books. This will keep me occupied during those flights.

^^^ It never dawned on me that “digital credits” could be used for Kindle books. Duh. I usually just borrow through the library on my Kindle but will keep this in mind in the future!

^^^ yes…I’ve used this often…many times when ordering on Amazon Prime, I really do not need items immediately. So, I select the option to have later and collect the $1 credit, which I use mainly on books.

I will make separate orders, instead of say, 3 items on one order…so I’ll collect $3. Yes, I do feel guilty about doing this, as it guarantees 3 separate boxes, whereas a single order MAY be combined in one box.

But I’m guessing that this little “loophole/benefit” may disappear in the future…

@gosmom I have an Amazon Prime Day set up (you can change it at any time). You can make multiple orders throughout the week and tell them to delivery on your Amazon Prime day. Get $1 credit for each order and they show up in the same box. I did this on Black Friday/Cyber Monday and had 12 ? orders in one box, and $12 credit.

Our local Sears and the Lands End inside it, is closing soon so I made a trip up there to see what I could find. I found a great coat with an original price (that I would never have paid) of $240 on sale for $70. a Dress that was $60 on sale for $14 and a flannel shirt market at $54 (ha!) on sale for $14. I also got some light t-shirts for my guys for $4.00 and a cute wristlet bag that has a charger and cord for $6.00. It was kind of sad walking around the mostly empty store remembering a whole lifetime of shopping at various Sears stores and remembering it as a solid middle class store.

@walkinghome, that is sad. I spent a lot at Sears, on appliances, tools, and kids clothes mostly. I ordered from Lands End when I could return to Sears.
Sounds like you got some great bargains, but clearly an era is ending.

I get the impression that Papyrus is going to be closing some stores. I recently purchased holiday cards and gift wrap 70 plus and extra 20% off. The other day I went into a store and everything was marked down extra 20% off and it was marked final sale. Does that mean there will be future markdowns on the merchandise till everything gets liquidated? We will have to wait and see.

Lord and Taylor in our mall did the same thing and our location is closing tomorrow. The fixtures are on sale and everything is clearanced 70 to 80%.

I expect more retail stores will be going through the same thing in 2020 since more people are shopping online and retail stores are experiencing less mall traffic.

All stores it appears.

Guess I will waiting for further markdowns at Papyrus before I make anymore purchases.

Wow, interesting. I was there last week. I also went to another card store at the mall. I asked them if they were just having a great sale or going out of business. The cashier said “for now just a great sale.” I actually like Papyrus wrapping paper a lot. I like their cards too, but they are expensive.

I wonder if Target will still carry their line.

Today only, Athleta has 20% off sale items, 30% off sale tops or jackets!

Great bargains at the Soma outlet yesterday. Got 5 bras $4.99 each, 6 panties $1.99 each and when I checked out, I apparently had a 20% off attached to my account. New undie wardrobe for less than the price of a single bra.

^^Great deals! I’ve never seen a Soma Outlet. Just checked and there aren’t any in my state. Lucky you!

I bought a Harris tweed jacket for $5.00 at hospital thrift store. Son and wife are hosting a murder mystery party, so this will be part of his costume. It will cost much more to mail it.

@bookworm try to see if the flat rate USPS box of adequate size saves on shipping.

Bought a new ski jacket on sale from Peter Glenn on line about 16 days ago. Today they had a pop up sale on line on their sale items purchased on line, and even though my purchase was just outside their 2 week window for price matching, they did it for me as a courtesy and are crediting back around $100!! For anyone needing any ski or sports clothes, the sale is on for 2 days (20% off their sale items on line). Great deals!

OOh-- the credit back was even more than I expected!! Woohoo! Off to look at their sale deals again!

Agree—it’s amazing what fits in the USPS flat rate boxes. The medium one was big enough for me to mail S an entire suit. I use those boxes a ton. The padded flat rate envelopes are great too—all you can fit mailed for $8!

Try to put the jacket in a plastic bag and compress all of the air out. That way you can try and stuff it into a smaller box. That’s what I do when I have clothes to ship that can be made smaller. I’m also a huge fan of space bags to store my clothes and linens
