I was listening to a podcast yesterday about the Delta variant. I’ll admit I didn’t know a lot of specifics about it. It was eye opening - especially as daily routines are largely back to pre-covid state.
This prompted me to look up how my area is doing vaccine wise. I’m hearing and seeing that vaccination sites are reduced, and it’s a very slow trickle of unvaccinated getting in line for a vaccination.
I thought it might be interesting to get a CC birdseye view. You don’t have to review your specific location, but I suggest listing your state and then listing your county FULL vaccination rate (but don’t list your county unless you really want to). I think it will be eye opening to see how low rates are in some areas. And just still keep a sense of caution in our choices in daily life - not to hide but to realize that when you’re at the grocery store and no one is wearing a mask - that indeed, probably a portion of those people are unvaccinated.
Here’s the link I used: CDC COVID Data Tracker
Enter your state and county. Scroll down to the table and look for “% of TOTAL POPULATION” and then to the far right “FULLY VACCINATED”
Here’s mine:
Ohio
County data: 44.2% fully vaccinated
(interesting that I looked one county away- also another state - and that county is 34.9% vaccinated - nearly 10% difference!)
41% for my county which was higher than I thought
46.9% for those > 12 years of age, so I’m thinking we should use that number considering younger kids aren’t eligible.
75.4% for those >65.
The county next to me where we spend a lot of our time since we’re practically on the border is better yet (and less rural TBH). It’s
45.1% of population
52.6% of > 12
84.4% of > 65
The sad news is I shouldn’t have looked up FIL’s “summer” county (where his cottage is) in VA. It’s
12.2% of population
13.8% >12
20.5% > 65. Yikes!
Then I looked up where his house is - not someplace I would consider rural at all TBH, esp not compared to around us. It’s sad. There it’s
27.1% of population
31.2% > 12
38.3% > 65.
FIL is Team Moderna. I sure hope it works for him. It’s quite scary to think about.
The CDC data does not match Dept of public health in GA. There is no way overall we have about 50% of the population over 18 with one dose, yet not a single county has that. (with the CDC info) I dont think GA is reporting things correctly.
In my county, about 2/3 of residents aged 16+ are fully vaccinated and just under 1/3 of age 12-15 is fully vaccinated.
This is quite good but I still wear a mask in indoor public spaces, unless I’m with a group of trusted people I know to be vaccinated. I’ve become so used to wearing a mask that I don’t mind it.
Virginia is different than most states. Cities in Virginia are completely separate and independent from counties. Cities are like mini counties and thus show up in the CDC list.
Please list your state! We don’t all know counties across the country!
I’ll ask once but know that I don’t control how the thread functions - can we just report the facts as shown on the website (or your health department) and NOT ponder or elaborate on the why/when/how’s - just the numbers to tell an unbiased story!
WA Dept of Health reports 69.2% statewide with at least one dose.
My county is the largest in the state.
79.9% with at least one dose.
73.9% fully vaccinated
Last month Seattle reported to be the first major city with 70% fully vaccinated.
