:) How often do you guys/girls hear this? Or even better, ever heard it from a teacher? :p

Heard it too many times...oh the Asian stereotypes

same here - it really gets annoying at times

"Oh you're perfect because you're Asian!"

"Why are you worrying? You're asian, of course you're going to ace it."
Oh, the joys of having your accomplishments attributed to your race. haha

Actually, I only heard that once...after I recited our vocab list verbatim from memory...lol

But yeah, being Asian can get tiring sometimes...

Better than being me, looking Hispanic to some, and getting, "Wow, you're rather accomplished."

Thanks, a-hole.

But on second thought, this thread was never really directed at Asians... so back to the original question.
I think it's more common to get flak from peers for being an overachiever. At least, none of my teachers have ever made fun of me for being one, although my friends have. Always in good humor though...
On second thought, my teachers have teased me for being a slacker... haha go figure.

Hmmm well better to be known as an overachiever than a slacker...

I hate that phrase... It's right up there with:

"Where do you think you're going to college?"

and

"I hate you."

:)

Yea, just because I'm asain, everyone thinks I'm a genius even though I'm far from it.

But I've heard from this guy in my class, "If you take my spot in a elite college, I'm going to be really mad."

Yeah, I've heard it a lot and it always makes me really embarassed even though I know I should take it as a compliment. Even last week when I turned in a biology project that I had bs'ed the night before, my biology teacher had to tell me "Geez, you're really an overachiever." I still try to do my best work though because I'm a perfectionist and probably destined to always be called an overachiever.

Well, I'm not Asian and I get it ALL the time and I think it's quite annoying...

haha..i'm seeing a trend....Yeah, as an Asian, I get that alot as well. It puts me on teachers' good sides, though, so I get brownie points and usually end up getting to slide once or twice if I screw up, cuz they like me ;)

It's weird, cuz I'm called an overachiever cuz I get good grades, but I feel like 'slacker' or 'procrastinator' fits me so much better. Who else feels like that??? Like, I do all my projects the night before (heck, sometimes in the morning or the class before its due), and I get good grades anyway....I'm such a procrastinator!

HiWei, I get those 2 phrases all the time, too- aggravating. Usually, it follows when a teacher is, like, "okay, we had 1 100 in the class..bobisbob..."... then come the eyerolls, "i knew its" and "i hate you" followed quickly by a "ha, just kidding"

"okay, we had 1 100 in the class..bobisbob..."...
lol that would be so funny if that was someone's actual name.

People will say stuff like "you suck" after you beat them on a test that may have been really easy but they don't ever pick up a book so they fail.

fail. I think i'm failing my english exam tomorrow actually. I already fell asleep twice while trying to study and I had 2 really bad dreams, and one was about collegeconfidential.com. :(

i get that a lot..

lol i get that phrase a lot too.. It's irritating at times... but oh well...

hey i am an asian but i am no where as gd as those 'perfect asians'
i dun play any instrument/no arts/like light sports....tend to struggle at maths!! lol.........

I get it sometimes. People aren't very ready to say it to a black person, but will say it to any asian that walks by.

"I hate you.. hehehahahahehehehe"
"Why are you so smart?" --- rhetorical question

Teacher: "One person got 100% in this class"
Everyone unanimously: "Jane"
"Of course it's Jane"
"We all know it's Jane"
"I bet you $1000000 it's Jane"

Now WeiWei took over my place!! "I bet you $10000000 it's WeiWei"

It has been quite embarrasing..Like, I didn't know what to say. But now I have this tinge of jealousy of Wei Wei!!

I actually heard "You're smarter than you look," from this one girl in my math class.

I almost yelled, "You're AS dumb as you look, (fill in the blank)." in front of a teacher.

I agree, while it does get annoying, think of it as a compliment.
