You've got mail!!

Ive been in the admissions process since the past 18 months (as if that is new!!). But, as an international, it was a bit different from the others. There have been times when i was lost, desperate, devastated, ecstatic and all that. High school seniors and CCers helped me throughout the way, but i was surprised at the way the SBU officials treated me.

Since my application reached the college in December, i've wondered what are the officials so busy with that they can not reply to my emails! For any small problem or query, it was straight to the phone booth for me. And as i was not in the US, those calls costed me a lot. Even the things that lacked in my application were told to me after i called the college twice. The admissions office was not at all bothered to reply to mails or to intimidate me about missing admissions documents.

I thoroughly understand that the admissions officers are too busy and all that, but my question is why did this happen only with SBU? I applied to 11 colleges, got accepted in 5 and waitlisted in 1. Regardless of my admission status, all colleges were prompt in replying to every little query that i threw a t them, no matter how insignificant.

This is something that has shocked me. On one hand the college brochures and promotions urge students to check mails atleast twice a day and on the other hand, the college officials are wary of replying to emails. Has it been the same with other SBU students, whether current or future?

Dear SBUAdmissions, I request you to please post your comments on this thing as an SBU representative.

I can't necessarily speak to our international counselors; they usually ask students to contact them via e-mail, because of the costs of international calls. I don't have a real answer for you, but if you'd like to e-mail me with your info, I can pass the word along to our international folks.

Thanks for your input Mr. Chris. You said that international calls are expensive and that is exactly why I am expecting atleast the international admissions office to be prompt with emails. On the other hand, it is the slowest to reply. Sometimes, my mails go unattended all together. It is not until I call them that I get an answer.

And I have no specific query for the international office right now. I started this topic cause I wanted to know what is going on in that office which leads to unattended emails!
