Zahm??

Why does everyone "hate" Zahm and everything I read about the dorm negative?

Ignore the negativity. The reality is there will be several hundred college kids in all dorms, and whenever you get several hundred college kids together, there will be a lot of fun and excitement.

Every dorm at Notre Dame is special! You will be proud to be a “Zambie” after the first week. And until then, think about this - this fall, one of the Zahm men died very suddenly of leukemia. On his birthday, the men of Zahm invited his family to the football game, and they rallied the entire student body to recognize him and honor him - on national television! They also raised money for cancer research in his name. No one really “hates” Zahm, and you have much to be proud of!

Zahm has the stereotype for being the crazy dorm and well, it’s somewhat accurate. People say that you’ll get roofied in Zahm and that the guys are creepy. But in reality, I have so many great friends from Zahm, and they’re all normal people. Zahm embraces their weirdness and acts more weird to get a rise out of people. They also do some dumb stuff: this year, they had the freshman dress up in red and the upperclassmen dress up in blue, get waterguns and water balloons, and stage a battle in the middle of north quad. Apparently they were reenacting the first “Zahmiversary” of the “revolutionary war” of Zahm getting their name changed from Zahm Hall to Zahm House.

Also, ndtxmom82 is completely right about the charity thing. During one song at football games, most people pump their fists, but Zahm will raise their arms in an X in defiance because the writer of the song lived in Keenan, one of Zahm’s rivals. The student who passed away was named Xavier, so in his honor at that game everyone did “Raise an X for X”. Everyone banded together in support of Zahm and their beloved Zahmbie that they lost.
