Right now the two main career paths I am considering are 1. Engineering or 2. Wildlife biology or a related field. Regarding wildlife biology, which major would be more ideal, biology or zoology? My #1 college choice right now (Whitman College) doesn’t offer a zoology degree, but instead biology with an emphasis in Environmental Studies, and I have heard conflicting opinions regarding the respective values of either degree. Some say that Zoology is too specific and “worthless”, or that biology isn’t specific enough for a wildlife biology path. Are there any current or aspiring wildlife biologists or zoologists that could offer some insight or advice on the best educational path to follow? I am really interested in the conservation and research side of things, not so much being a zookeeper or a park ranger. Sorry if this post seems long winded, I am a little overwhelmed with the college/major search right now! Thanks in advance Oh and the other schools I am looking at are Washingon State, University of Idaho, University of Colorado, and Montana State University.
You might want to consider UC Davis which has a Wildlife, Fish and Conservation Major.
