Do colleges give credit for a 2 on an ap exam?

On the collegeboard website, it says that if you get a 2 you are "possibly qualified". So technically if you get a 2 you "pass". Do you know any colleges that accept an ap exam score of 2?

Im prett, pretty sure that 3 is passing, anything less is failing. You can check, but I really doubt any college would give credit for a 2

^ Most of the AP Policies I’ve looked at only give credit for things above 3. It depends on the course. Some of them only accept a 5 for a certain course, but give credits for 3s in others.

Well, Williams gives some sort of credit to 1’s and 2’s on some tests: [Williams College Registrar’s Office](<a href=“Williams College”>Williams College)

University of Washington in Seattle accepts a 2 in Calc AB for placement.

One needs to distinguish between the use of AP exam results for credit and their use for placement. The chart indicates Williams does not give credit for a 1 or 2 in AP Calc (AB and BC). It simply indicates appropriate placement for students who have received those scores.

Actually Williams appears to be rather parsimonious about AP credit, giving unconditional credit only for Latin (4 and 5), Econ (5), and Calc (AB-4 and 5, BC-3, 4, and 5). Credit for all other tests either depends on departmental placement exams or is not offered at all. This kind of standard is typical of many highly selective schools.

Some do accept a 2 for credit, but you’ll find very few colleges that will. Many won’t even accept a 3.

giving credit on Calc BC for a score of 3 is parsimonious???

Insofar as Williams extends credit outright for only three AP exams, yes. Moreover many schools credit Calc BC for two semesters, not just one, so that policy, too, is less than generous.

See [Rice University AP Policy]( Exam Credit) for comparison with a similarly selective school.

Acceptance of a 2 for subject credit is likely to be very rare, if it exists at all.

In many cases, the minimum for subject credit is a 4 or 5.

UA gives credit for a 2 in music theory.

some colleges do give credit for a 2, although it’s very few that do this. None of the top ranked colleges will do this.

Some colleges don’t exactly give you credit, but get you into a higher level (maybe honors) for a 2 than for a 1 or not having taken the AP. I think UIUC does this, and I know Williams does.

A 2 score in a foreign language AP test may place you in a higher level course than the beginner course in that foreign language.

Very few colleges give credit for a 2 because that’s not considered passing by many.

I hate to say it, but I haven’t seen one so far that does. It may be used for placement, particularly in language and fine arts classes, but at least at competitive schools, you’re out of luck. I’m sorry. :(
