My daughter is a freshman at NYU and I can share our experiences when visiting:
When did you visit?
April 2022 (Weekend at the Square), August 2022 (move in weekend) and October 2022 (parents weekend) - all were great experiences.
Where did you stay? Would you recommend it?
We have stayed at the Courtyard by Marriott Soho, The Dominick, and The Marlton - all short walks to Washington Square park and nice hotels. The Marlton is my favorite - small and very cool vibe
Where did you eat? Did you try any local specialties?
Loved Monte’s Trattoria right in the village.
How did you get there? What’s the best transportation mean to get to-from the campus?
We’ve driven, flown and taken Amtrak from Boston - driving is my preference but my daughter enjoys the train.
What was the campus vibe?
Cool, hip, city life - high energy and exciting.
What did you think of the dorms?
My daughter is in Lipton - big rooms for a dorm, well cared for - typical issues with an old building (air/water temps),but you can’t beat the location.
What are some must-see things in or around campus?
Visit the library, walk down MacDougal St at night, get a slice of Joe’s pizza and a bagel (Bagel Pub is her fave), enjoy people watching in the park, see a show on Broadway.
How were the school facilities?
The library is beautiful, as is the Skirball center and Kimmel building.
Did you like it more or less than you thought you would? Why?
We all love the school, the biggest challenge is meeting and getting to know people - everyone is super busy and there’s little downtime.
Did anything surprise you?
How quiet it can be compared to the rest of the city - Greenwich Village is a really unique neighborhood.
My recommendation is to make sure leave time to explore other parts of the city - take the subway, see Central Park, 9/11 memorial, Times Square - the whole city really is their campus and its good to get a sense of what living there is like.
