Hey i was wondering if anyone who went to the febuary 22nd and 23rd explore usc could shed light of the days events... most importantly, could someone give an indepth explanation of this years interview process.. what questions were asked, how long was the interview, etc.
thanks

i had a lot of fun during Explore, they definitely pull out all the stops. i hadn't been seriously considering usc before (i don't want to go to college on the west coast) but now i definitely am... it's really well organized, and even though it poured the first day i still fell in love with the school. no one can for sure tell you what the interviews are like since they're all entirely different; mine was with an IR professor and a senior, we just sat in an office and they basically asked me why i'm drawn to IR, they asked about a couple of my quick takes, and then the big question that i'm sure they ask everyone: why would you choose usc over your other schools?
all in all it was just like a conversation, no pressure, not intimidating. but seriously, i guarantee that every one is different so you can't really anticipate what you'll get ahead of time.

I was an interviewer, so I guess I can shed some light on the process. Some of the interview is based on your extracurriculars, but opinions on current events, why you picked your major, how much you are considering USC... all of those are fair game. Each interview is supposed to be 20 minutes, but my person and I ended up being really behind, and we met our 11:30 interviewee at 12:00 or so :)

The events on the first day were very interesting and fun. The interview wasn't very scary at all and the interviewers were very nice and interested in what you had to say.

Anyone else want to add to this? Mine's coming up in two days!!!

The interviews are ALL quite short (15-25 minutes), so don't panic if yours is short...everyone's is. My interviewers had my application sitting out on the desk but they didn't reference it at all. They asked me mainly about my academic interests, how I became interested in my major, what other academic interests I have separate from my major, what kinds of extracurricular activities I would like to be involved in if I attended USC, what other schools I was applying to, and what factors would play a role in my decision about matriculation. It all felt relaxed and casual and they were kind. I don't know about other departments, but at my interview at Viterbi three or four current USC students hung out with us in the reception area to just talk and answer questions and kind of "calm us down" while we were waiting for our interview, which was really nice because it completely distracted me from being nervous. Good luck to everyone!
