Tell it like it is, Yenmor!!! We need you!

I wouldn’t be too sure of the zero odds on jail! It doesn’t take much these days, especially if you drive a car or go through airport security! :)

“your odds of killing someone or ending up in jail”

This thread is about someone who GOT killed and the many other victims like him, not about perpetrators.

Yes I expect that the other young black college students at the frat also would have swore two weeks ago that their lives would not be touched by violence.

We really don’t have complete control over our lives, unless yenmor knows a secret that has eluded everyone else.

I like Yenmore’s point about his individual character, but I also must say that Hanna’s and Emerald’s comments are sobering and should be committed to memory.

Yenmor didn’t say his life wouldn’t be touched by violence. He said that he wouldn’t be the perpetrator. And that’s something that IS entirely within his control.

YAY for Yenmore!

What’s the point?

It’s also Statistical fact that “Odds of a public high school student killing someone or ending up in jail is higher than that of a private high school student”.

First of all, it’s horrible that this happened… Condolences to all involved and affected. Secondly, this is precisely why racism will always be in our society… people will not put it aside for any reason and I mean this by the fact that it was even mentioned that it was a minority frat. It was a frat, plain and simple… whether black, white, purple, green, yellow, blue, red or any other color you can imagine. People. We are all people. We all bleed red… So, tomorrow, instead of thinking in terms of color, think in terms of people. A young person lost a life and that is very sad indeed :(

But your odds of being killed are not zero. Wake up.

Exactly my point, too, emeraldkity4. Right on!

Sjajdld: You can stick your head in the sand tomorrow morning if that is your wish, but if we are to have any chance at addressing the epidemic of violence that is robbing this country of so many of our African-American men, some of us had better not ignore the details of America’s problems.

Plainsman, I was responding to a comment that stated that since I am black, I am more likely to kill someone or in up in jail. The point I was attempting to make was skin color does not make someone more likely to commit a crime.

The fact that there are more blacks on the Lakers
means nothing. I have a zero chance of being offered a spot on the team.

I worry about the safety of my daughter, but not because she is black, but because crime can be random and as a parent , I want her to be safe.

Yenmore, I’m glad the odds of you killing someone or going to jail are zero. I won’t say the some about my son. I don’t wait to jinx it, and we are truly blessed/lucky;whatever you prefer. I do what I can, but I don’t take credit for many things. EVERYDAY I think “there but for the grace of God”.My sons friends joke when they see a police officer. “Shrinkrap’s son; You should run”! We had a young, politicaly active Mexican councilman shot in his driveway because he looked like somebody else. That happens A LOT!

I’ll be honest. As soon as I read the title of this thread I thought “oh please don’t let this be a black fraternity”. My second thought was, I wonder what those kids who wish they were black men for better odds at college admission world think off that.

"I was responding to a comment that stated that since I am black, I am more likely to kill someone or in up in jail. "

Odds don’t tell the whole story.

I am in one of those sororities, more active now than I EVER was in college, and we want to believe there is somewhere, at some point, I can think our young men are safe

Stupid tablet PC.
