1 Year Transfer Possible?

Hi, I'm a freshman at Cal Poly - San Luis Obispo right now. I am really interested in transferring as soon as possible. Cal Poly is a good school but it was actually always my last choice - I came here basically because I had friends going here, and I did not want to stray too far from my now ex high school girlfriend (Oh the decisions we make...). In fact, I even turned down large scholarships at other schools like Oberlin, Puget Sound, Willamette, etc.

Anyways, I had pretty good high school stats:
About a 3.8ish weighted GPA with 4 AP classes ( AP Euro - 4, US Hist 5, US Gov 5, AP Bio 5). My GPA has a strong upward trend, as I struggled the first two years of high school but got all A's (unweighted) junior and senior year. I got a 1450 best composite on the SATs (800 V 650 M) and a 33 on the ACT. I had okay ec's, including a club and service award from the Kiwanis for work done at that club.

Here as a Bio major at Cal Poly I expect to do fine:
I will be taking the Intro to bio and intro to chemistry series (1 chem and 1 bio per quarter for all three quarters) and will get A's or A-'s in all of them). I am also taking Calc I this quarter and Calc II + California gov (in addition to the sciences) next quarter and will get B's to A-'s in the math's and an A in government. I am not sure about the fourth quarter yet. By the time this year is over, I think I will almost be a junior equivalent with units (including those from AP's).

Anyways I am looking to transfer to a school in the mountains (Colorado College type) or to a school back east such as an Amherst type (though I do not believe I could get in there). I would prefer a liberal arts school where I am not so stuck in my major as I am here. Though I really enjoy bio and chem, I have at least as much passion for history and writing and would love a college where I could pursue those also.[For the record, I am hoping to go to medical school after college.] Is a transfer possible after only a year? What are some good choices if so? I am really confused, but at the same time motivated to get out of here.
Thank you very much.

yes its possible. but the chances are a lot lower than junior transfers

Does anyone have any ideas? So far I'm thinking about Colorado College, but I am also very interested in the northeast (which I am not familiar with in terms of schools at all).

This is not categorically true -- some schools are just as friendly to sophomores as to juniors. It just depends on the school.

As long as you have had enough units to be considered a sophmore than your fine. Every school is different, some would prefer juniors, some will only accept juniors and some just dont care, and then some will take anything sophmore or above. But obviously, the more credits you have(within reason), the greater your chances
