Can I Transfer to Cal Poly?

Note: I also posted this in the main transfer forum but have yet to get a response.

I go to CSU Fresno right now as a sophomore Business major (finance option), and frankly I feel I need a change of scenery. There’s a lot to love about Fresno; I grew up here and know everything about the city, but I never really wanted to go to college here. I feel like graduating from Cal Poly would look wonders better on my resume, compared to Fresno.

Fresno barely has any campus culture besides the frats and the football games, as well as the constant weekend drinking. The area around the school isn’t to great either safety wise. The weather here can be very annoying at times also. Extreme heat to extreme cold. It is a bit too easy, and I’m hoping I can transfer somewhere where it is a might be more challenging. I got a 3.9 GPA my freshman year (damn that 89% in Humanities!), and I took 19 units this semester to try to make things a bit harder, but I would surprised if I got anything besides a 4.0. I don’t mean to sound pretentious at all, but the curriculum here is pretty easy.

I wanted to go to Cal Poly originally, but my High School GPA and SAT (3.45 and 1800) weren’t good enough, and I am hoping that I might be able to to transfer there next year. I really love its academics and location. I will have all my GE and prereqs to transfer except a Business Calc class, which CSU Fresno does not offer. However, I passed my AP stats with a 4, which Cal Poly says gives you credit for that class on their AP Credit Sheet, so I am hoping that somehow transfers can use that as credit. This is what I believe my main issue and I am hoping that they will accept my AP test as credit.

My question is, do I have a shot of getting accepted as a transfer? I’ve heard it’s really hard. I really do not want to end up getting stuck here in Fresno where I feel a bit miserable sometimes.

People in this thread seemed to have a really hard time:

TL;DR Do i have a shot at Cal Poly with a 3.9 GPA at Fresno State. If not, what other schools would I have a shot at that might be an upgrade academically?

If you have 60 semester or 90 quarter units and have completed the A1 A2 A3 and B4 area by the end of Spring 2011, then the only way to find out is to apply and hope for the best. As you mentioned, it is really tough to predict whether CP will admit someone or not. The average admitted GPA for transfer students for Fall 2010 for Business Administration was 3.47 with an acceptance rate of 8.9% (117 out of 1307).

Have you checked out assist.org to see whether you have completed all the major prerequisites in order to transfer yet? Also, are you planning or going to complete the entire set of CSU-GE? Because those are some of the more important deciding factors on whether you will be admitted or not.

Good Luck

Yes, I am planning on completing all of those classes from the Assist website, of course. The only prereq I can not complete is the Business Calc class though, because Fresno State doesn’t offer that class, which is why I hope that my AP Stats test will count. And, yes, I will have completed my CSU-GE, except maybe an upper division course by next spring.
