I'm thinking about attending UC Berkeley for three of my four years and transferring to UC Irvine for one year in between. Would there be any obstacles to doing that? Are there any prerequisites for Berkeley that I wouldn't be able to complete at Irvine?

why do you want to do that? that sounds like you just want to set yourself up for difficulties.

of course it will be difficult.

PS in between?

so like Cal>Irvine>Cal?

There are going to be serious complications when shifting from semester to quarter systems.

Why stress yourself out like that? You’d have to have really stellar grades to be reaccepted to Berkeley for transfer. Imagine if you started at Cal, transfered to UCI, and didn’t get accepted for re-transfer back to Cal? You’d be stuck with a UCI degree when you could have had a Cal degree with no complications.

Also, Berkeley doesn’t accept transfers that aren’t junior level. So you would have to do the sequence Cal>UCI>Cal>Cal. No other sequence (Other than UCI>UCI>Cal>Cal, I guess) would work.

Are you aware of the Intercampus Visitor Program for UCs? This program allows you to take a quarter/semester at any UC you choose. It’s not quite the year you’d like, but it would be a hell of a lot less taxing on your psyche.

I was wondering if there was a program like the Intercampus Visitor Program. Does the program allow students to take more than one semester at the other UC?

As far as I know, only one semester/quarter is allowed.
