I've read that this is possible, and if anyone has tried it, can they lend a prospective one year transfer some advice? How many units did they take in the quarter system? Did they complete igetc and major pre-reqs? Did they fill out and turn in the uc application when they first started college?

What if I don't get in the first time? Can I still apply again as a 2nd year transfer or will my application be looked down upon?

How do admissions committees look at grades considering you just started college? Do they look primarily at your schedule or do you update it consistently?

i dont know too much about CC because i am from CSU, but i think it is similar. take around 25 units each quarter. when you apply for UCs in fall, you roughly have around 60 units and keep going for winter and spring.
i personally finish my General Education and some pre-reqs in 5 quarters(include summer)
i don't think you can apply when you first go to college because you can't even fill your application form without some college classes and experience.
also, i don't think you are able to apply as a 2nd year transfer again because you will have more than 140 units before transfering to UCs.
by the way, it is a lot of suffering to finish up within one year and keep good GPA.
hope this helps

I wouldn't recommend it, I actually did something like what you are talking about. I screwed up in my first year only achieved 6 units so this year (my second year) I will have done a total of 62 units. I had to go to two different community colleges and it was very difficult to keep my grades up, keep working part time, and maintain some sort of social life. I would just take it easy and do two years like it was meant to be done. There were some classes where I would have achieved A's and got B's and C's instead so yeah I would recommend just doing two years. I've been accepted to UCSD, UCSB, UCR, UCI and still waiting for UCLA; I don't know what the admission officers look for but if you are going to try to do this what I did was take about 15 units in the summer and during the fall I took alot of short term classes so I could put grades from those classes in the application in november.

Look you have to have 60 units b4 transferring to a UC- if you can do them all in one year then good for you.

You dont have to do your IGETC or your Major prep to get in, you just have a much better chance of getting in IF you do your major prep, and IGETC althought not necessary just helps you fulfill the lower GE requirements.

In addition to all that, it doesnt really matter at all if you get all your 60 units done in 1 year with a low gpa versus taking 2 years and getting a good GPA.

If you have a lot of AP credits then transferring in 1 year is more feasable. Also what is your major, a science major is going to need a lot more than 60 units in most cases.

i got in UCSD freshmen year and went there for a year and I applied to transfer to UCLA and I got in. I am currently at UCLA and I love it here! Anyways, just as long as you have 60 units/90 qtr units when you start at your preferred school, you can apply. My AP credits and courses I took at CC helped me get to the 90 unit mark. But beware that some UCs have unit maximums so you have to graduate within certain amounts of units. Make sure you know what you want to do before you transfer.

Malishka31 mentions a good point about the major that you have being important, I didn't have a lot of class to take for my major which made it easier because I got to take a lof of introductory class like theatre appreciation and intro to music. I couldn't imagine doing it if they were classes that weren't beginning level classes. As for short term classes, those are classes that are shorter than the normal length classes for a semester. I think there is around 16 weeks in a semester, so a short term class would probably have 10 weeks or less to cover the same amount of material. Most of the classes I took were online classes though because it allows for freedom to learn at your own pace. Like I've mentioned before though, I wouldn't suggest trying to do it in one year because its hard to maintain high grades for all the classes.

my major only has 3 prereqs but im worried about being to update the application, because they would only be able to see my course schedule not my classes, or do i send an update of grades each quarter?

i've finished my math requirement, and im taking courses now, and i plan to take courses in the summer also, and when i start in fall i would have around 25 units

theoretically possible for biz-econ, philo, psych major which mostly have around 60,70 semester units ~90,100 quarter units , while almost impossible for engineering majors which require about 120,130 quarter units ~ 80,85 sem units
