Stanford said they didn't receive 1000+ apps last year: here's what it says

"As I noted in an earlier update on this site, nearly 1,000 would-be applicants to Stanford (last year) mistakenly believed they successfully submitted their applications via the Common Application Web site when, in fact, they did not. These students completed their applications online and paid their application fees but failed to actually "submit" their applications online by the deadline"

I don't understand what does this mean? Were there 1000 people last year who didn't click the submit button or something?

Quick questions stanford’s deadline was eastern time right? I now that a lot of californians did not know that so maybe they turned their app in late since 9pm pacific would be 12 pm. eastern.

i’m pretty sure stanford’s deadline is pacific time. i could be wrong but i remember seeing it. too lazy to check though hahah. it should be on the website

Ya its PST. It freaks some people out when they submit their apps and it says Jan 2, but that is just because the commonapp signs it EST.

As for the 1000+ missing apps, what happened was that people submit the stanford supplement and the payment but not the actual common application itself. Pretty silly mistake in my view, but it happened to a lot of people so Stanford reached out to folks to help make sure it didn’t happen again. Seemed to go well for the EA round at least, there were ~50ish or so kids that this happened to, so if they can hold that ratio should be much better for the RD kids as well.

Okay I just found out the deadline was extended until Jan. 3 if people already started the application!!! BigMike3541 I think your right about people who didn’t submit the commonapp and Stanford is probably being nice allowing late submissions
