What’s his name? I thought he was homeless

lol I can’t believe you revived this old thread. I’ll give it a chance:

1) No academic weakness. Top 15 departments in every major field of study. Arguably, the most academically diversified and versitile university in the US.

2) Campus has a unique and perfect mix of intense academics, intellectual vibe and blow-your-mind school spirit.

3) Ann Arbor is quite possibly the quaintest, funkiest, most cosmopolitan college town around.

4) One of the largest, wealthiest, most influencial and most loyal alumni base on Earth. Our alums have sat in the Oval Office, walked on the moon, won nobel prizes, earned Rhodes and Marshall scholarships, led fortune 500 companies, impacted the entertainment industry, competed in sports at the highest level and are, on average, the 4th wealthiest alums in the US.

5) The University of Michigan hospital, Rackham graduate administration building, Clements Library, Law Quad, Burton Tower, North Campus, the new Ross Building (when it is completed) and the Big House are amazing!

6) Michigan football and hockey rock!

7) Hail to the Victors is the most rousing and spirited fight song ever.

8) The Winged helmets are the coolest and most easily recognized in college sports.

9) Zingerman sandwitches are the awesome.

10) You will never run out of cafes!

11) One of the best bargains in higher education for a Michigan resident. Comparable to some of the top private schools in the country, yet at in-state tuition rates.

12) NEW 100 million dollar business school facility coming soon.

13) So many places to study and people to study with. At any given night, i can find a friend to study with at any time of day/night.

14) FREE shuttle buses to various parts of ann arbor.

15) There’s something here for everyone.

16) Amazing med school/law school placement.

17) Has a lot of great, established churches on campus.

18) Most food places are open LATE, until 3am-4am daily, such as pancherro’s, jimmy johns, big 10 burrito. you will never go hungry here.

19) Ann Arbor has the first Borders book store in the country, and it’s basically right on campus. If they didn’t have it, I’d be quite upset.

20) After a football game against central michigan university this year, as a lot of students left the game early since it was a blowout, a group of central michigan students were yelling and attempting to make fun of a bunch of us leaving by saying “are you guys gonna go study now?! haha”. That actually made me smile when I heard it. First, we destroyed them in football, and then we get the reputation of being such a great school academically :]

21) Accessibility of graduate program to undergraduates. Almost all Honors math majors start taking graduate classes their Junior year, if not earlier. I think one of my friends is taking graduate level E&M. Having a graduate program to extend to means there’s no limit to what you can do as an undergrad.

22) Ralph Williams. Simply amazing for being but a simple Canadian.

23) Royal Shakespeare Company in residency (as a result of the man above). This year is the third time they’ve done it, every time doing more shows. Everybody has had amazing things to say about their productions.

24) Technology. We have computer centers all over campus, including in most residential halls, kerberos and AFS, we’re one of few universities hooked up to Internet2, Wolverine Access, Ctools, etc.

25) Interesting topics classes/seminars. Right now I’m taking History of College Athletics, and a seminar tied in with the RSC’s productions.

26) South Quad not only has it’s own website, but we also have our own mascot (Squaddy the Squirrel). Squaddy was out on the front Quad greeting people at move-in, and was present at almost every event in the South Quad Olympics.

27) The Annual West Quad/South Quad Snowball Fight.

28) Home to the most illustrious team in college football.

29) Possibly the ideal college experience.

30) Phenomenal networking possibilities.

31) Unique new “colosseum” style stadium. Too bad our mascots aren’t the Praetorians.

32) You get turned down by UC Berkeley or they give you lousy financial aid.

33) We ave a computer lab that’s called the ‘fish bowl’.

34) There are so many different types of restaurants on campus. chinese, japenese, korean, indian, etc etc.

35) We have 3 main bookstores all around campus.

36) UM students get to watch the biggest and BEST musical performers here for CHEAP prices. performers such as Joshua Bell and Sarah Chang & the Philharmonic.

37) Buffalo Wild Wings. I’m from NJ and I’ve never seen one in my life until i got here. their wings are amazing.

38) dining halls in mostly ALL residence halls. my old college did not have this.

39) they have tons of healthy options in dining halls as well as nutritional facts.

40) You appreciate variety in your weather.

41) You own like ten North Face jackets

42) Your just dying to try out that new fur coat you bought for the winter.

43) You don’t ever want to see a hot girl again.

44) You like depressing, cold, long, harsh, unforgiving winters.

45) You want to see snow on October 12.

46) A dorm as pretentious as Martha Cook.

47) Lots of great musical/theatrical performances right now campus.

48) Probably more diversity in political groups than anywhere else. You can always find a group to fit your ideology. And the College Republicans started here.

49) There are more interesting people than you have the time to meet.

50) The university’s huge, so there are tons of resources in everything. At the same time, everything is incredibly accessible…you can get the classes you want, approach the professors and be more than simple a number, run for student government, meet every type of person you want, etc.

51) Related to 50, you have more flexibility probably than anywhere else to determine which classes you want. You can make your schedule as easy, hard, generic, or specific as you want.

52) You want to learn to appreciate sunshine. And honestly, if there’s one thing I’ve learned to appreciate here, that’s it.

53) Huge Greek system with lots of frats and sororities to join if you are interested but not dominating social scene if you aren’t interested.

54) Probably the only university in the world that has a researcher that looks like a homeless guy, but isn’t, playing beautiful harmonica music outside the undergraduate library, almost daily, rain or shine to help amuse and entertain our otherwise busy days.

55) Proposal 2 passed in the state of Michigan, banning the use of affirmative action. It makes Umich a better school, regardless of what anyone says.

56) Ann Arbor is a great town that has plenty of things to offer as far as entertainment but still has trees (hence…the “arbor” part of the name), grass, and because of the many tree-huggers around here, squirrels! ^_^

57) Related to 56, the city of Ann Arbor itself is very diverse, in part because of the university, but there are also plenty of diverse people who actually live in Ann Arbor and do not work or study at the U of M, so regardless of what happens at the U of M with prop 2 the area still has great diversity!

58) If you’re in town over the summer, Top of the Park (which is part of the Summer Fesitval) and The Ann Arbor Summer Art Fair! (If you’re from Ann Arbor like me…I know. It’s a love-hate relationship with the Art fair…but you gotta admit, it’s pretty cool (minus the traffic jams and lack of parking).

59) You could be going to school with the next Gerald Ford, Arthur Miller, Theodore Roethke, Lucy Liu, Selma Blair, Tom Brady, Ann Coulter, Jack Kevorkian, Madonna, Iggy Pop, Mike Wallace, Clarence Darrow, Charles Walgreen, or Unabomber =)

60) Michigan has the only alumni association with a chapter on the moon.

61) Ann Arbor was recently voted one of the three most educated cities in the US, ahead of the likes of Berkeley and Cambridge!

62) Many major corporations are headquarted in or around Ann Arbor, giving students plenty of opportunities for internships and full-time work.

63) Cute, fearless and intimidatingly large squirrels!

64) Bohemianism.

65) TALLY HALL! (Please tell me someone knows who they are…)

66) One of the best universities to initiate and pursue a dual-degree. The university is very flexible in allowing students to create their own program. Having numerous top-15 ranked schools is a plus!
