105 Rule help

I applied for Winter quarter 2016, and I just saw the 105 credit rule. I have 101 credits at the time my application was submitted and will have 126 & my AA in business after this fall quarter. However on my application I put Pre Major because I have decided to not pursue business even though my essay states i want to do business. Will having it request to go in as a pre major effect my chances of getting in? Please help!

Only 90 lower divison credits will actually transfer, with up to 135 when including higher division (only lower division possible at community colleges, disregarding 4 year degree programs). This may affect your chances because although you’ve completed over 90 credits, preparedness for your major is a big factor into the application and you are still undecided.

I don’t think it will have a negative impact on your application. Many people come in with the 90 transferable lower level credits and are pursuing majors that have prerequisites that can only be completed at UW, or need to wait a quarter before applying to the major. I came in as undeclared with an intent to study a field in Anthropology with 85 credits and ended up in pursuing a double major outside of Anthropology. Also, you can in some instances get a pre-major extension. I would contact our advising office at advice@uw.edu. Nevertheless, I wouldn’t stress too much.

@Jsmith210 While there are certain individuals who are accepted as transfers despite a lack of specified major preparation coming into the university, that does not mean it doesn’t affect one’s chances. Straight from the University’s transfer page:

“Every transfer applicant is reviewed thoroughly and holistically. Begin your journey with a look at the factors we use in comprehensive review. Good preparation for your intended major is the best preparation for admission.”

This means that it is a major factor, and thus can be a dealbreaker for some applications.

@Jsmith210 Thank you! I took Five 5 credit classes this quarter to finish my Associates in Business so I hope that says something to them! I also did Running Start so I do have a few non transferrable/random stuff. Praying I get in!

@Readyandwaiting thanks for the input, but I actually work part time in advising and am very familiar with the admissions website and the information on it. There’s really no need to alarm an already concerned applicant by making assumptions about the admission process.

@jsmith210 Good news, I was able to change the intended major back to business  She seemed a little annoyed since it was the same person that changed it to pre major but I hope that doesn’t effect anything…
