John Mork, a USC alumnus and trustee who made a fortune in the oil industry, says the gift will 'allow the very best kids to get a degree at USC, whether they can afford it or not.'

USC donation: John and Julie Mork donate $110 million for USC undergraduate scholarships - latimes.com

so~~is there a way for me to apply for this scholarship?

It’s great to be a student at USC!

There is one page ad from USC about this donation on today’s Chicago Tribune (page 5). Proud to be the Trojan’s family. Fight on!

This is great news!

I did note, however, that the article mentions that awardees will have to maintain a 3.5 GPA. That is a very high standard, and higher than the current 3.0 required of Trustee and Presidential Scholars. If I were a parent who could not pay for USC without the scholarship, I would be very hesitant to allow my child to take on the stress of that requirement at a rigorous school like USC.

The USC-news article says:

[Mork Family Gives Historic Gift of $110 Million to Undergraduate Scholarships - USC News](http://uscnews.usc.edu/university/mork_family_gives_historic_gift_of_110_million_to_undergraduate_scholarships_1.html)

Has the GPA requirement for Trustee/Prresidential been increased? Or is this a typo?

The Trustee/Presidential brochure for 2011-2012 states only that students must remain “academically eligible” http://www.usc.edu/student-affairs/arp//Documents/2011_2012_ScholarshipPolicy.pdf</a></p>

The Trustee/Presidential renewal policy lists a 2.0 [USC Trustee & Presidential Scholars](http://www.usc.edu/student-affairs/arp//renewal.htm)

And the Trustee/Presidential FAQ lists a 3.0 requirement [USC Trustee & Presidential Scholars](http://www.usc.edu/student-affairs/arp//faqscholars.htm#pass)

Can a 2011 Trustee/Presidential awardee let me know what their award letter says? Is it a 3.0 or 3.5 requirement?

Sign me up. I can keep a 3.5 GPA.

But chances are I won’t qualify for this scholarship in some way or another. But I really want to know how you get it either way.

Our son’s Trustee Scholarship award letter says nothing about maintaining a minimum GPA. However, there’s a booklet that accompanied the letter which pertains to all USC merit scholarships (Trustee, Presidential, Leadership, Dean’s Directors and Associates), and it states that you will lose your scholarship if you are “academically disqualified.” Criteria for academic disqualification is 2.0 or below. So, I guess you only have to maintain a 2.1 GPA.

The Tuition Exchange Scholarship (which S also received) requires a 3.0 minimum GPA.

Thanks, Steverino - that is a much better requirement than a 3.5. I would hold on to the letter just-in-case.

The Mork family had already donated $15 million to the Viterbi School of Engineering. SC is fortunate to have received two large gifts in such a short period of time.
