'12 Applicants

Wow is this thread dead.

Anyone applying to Cooper Union for the class of 2012? What major? I already applied ED for civil engineering. Now I just have to find the time to write the 13 essays. >.< Well, not as time consuming as the home test!

Ah yes. I am applying regular for Electrical. I submitted Part 1 today.

13 essays?

Yeah they'll send you the link with the essays tomorrow. It just takes them some time to process it. Are you going to the open house on nov. 14th?

It's not 13 essays. It's closer to 13 paragraphs... no big deal.

btw, I finished mine in one day, so don't let the 13 "essays" intimidate you (assuming they haven't changed much over the past few years)

I am not attending open house. it's not close enough to where I live.

yeah, I got the essays/prompts the day after. this is the same thing as home-test? I am a bit confused as to why the application is separated into 2 parts. o___o;

Engineering applicants get the 13 questions. Art and architecture students get home tests.

sorry about the exaggeration. I was under the impression that we should write more than a paragraph for each but I presume it really is quality over quantity.

Hi I'm in a junior in high school and I cu is my DREAM school lol
I was wondering what your stats were for going into cu. like sats, etc etc. and would you recommend that I do anything specefic while I'm still in high school?

Perhaps I over-exagerrated as well. There are some questions where I answered in more than 1 paragraph, and there were some where I felt like it was impossible to write more than 1 paragraph. Perhaps where you discuss EC's (I think that was one of the questions), you can expand on it. Use your judgment, but one of these essay questions is not the same as one essay question from another school. Just get all your thoughts in and you'll be fine.

In any case, good luck, but don't stress out about it!

Hello, I am a freshman electrical engineer at Cooper Union. First off, most of the essays only require a couple of sentences to a paragraph. There is only one that I can think of that should require more than that. The reason why the application is divided into two parts is so that you spend more time considering whether you want to go to Cooper Union and less time worrying about the application. Third, the questions are designed so that the school can get to know you better in a way that is helpful, meaning that you should do more to express yourself than write superfluous crap. And don't worry too much about stats, as long as they are not downright horrible, as Cooper is looking for something a little different.

You really scared me! :P

I'm applying Early Decision to Cooper Union, and my questions are due in five days... which means I'll have to send it out... like tomorrow maybe! I only answered about 4 questions so far. Hopefully it gets processed in time.

I wonder, could I e-mail the part 2?

I'm so sorry. If it makes you feel any better, once i got started i realized what evryone else was saying. It only took me a few hours to write them and type them up. You should be fine ifyou overnight it.

im applying rd chemE

I'm applying rd arch.

I'm applying. My original wish was that if NYU had an engineering school, that'd be my first choice. Cooper Union fits that bill, but I'm not going ED. Great place to go to school. Good luck to you guys.

We can't really do chances for CU, but I'm wondering a 33 comp ACT with 33 math and 34 science would be sufficient. Anyone got a clue?

NYU just took over brooklyn polytech. They're annexing it this spring to become their engineering school. =( Sorry to tell you that. Cooper is better though, brooklyn just isn't the same. Good luck to you too!
