I'm currently applying to the CU Engineering school, and one of the things they request is a completely filled out questionnaire. It's about 13 questions, but some of the questions are very short winded. For example, "How did you learn about the Cooper Union?". Do they want a full essay about how I learned about CU, which is not impossible for my case, or do they want a short, blunt answer, such as "my parents" ?

I graduated in '07 but I do remember these 13 questions. I wonder, is the last one still “what trivialities do you permit yourself to enjoy?” hahaha. Anyway, no I don’t think you need to write an essay about how you found out about the place… but I would at least not be boring about it. Still use it as a chance to stand out somehow, but of course don’t try too hard. Maybe throw something in about why, when hearing about it, it appealed to you? Its a pretty unique place, take advantage of that and be original, even if the question is bland.

each answer only needs to be a paragraph at most. And truthfully they don’t put too much weight into it. I know of a couple of kids who handed it in late and still got in.

xD Thanks for replying guys, I sounded kinda angry in my last post.

But erm I got in ED and my essays were crap if that makes anyone feel better. Typed up 5 pg of way too much…stereotypical stuff in 2 hours w/music and internet blaring. So I’m just happy it didn’t turn out to be that weighty.

My brother currently attends Cooper’s School of Art. He answered the questionnaire in 6 and a half pages. It was quite candid. On the other hand, he’s heard of people answering all the questions in less than 2 pages and putting down whatever and still getting in.

I think the general criteria for art is to show your art depth matches your actual depth. At least that’s what I got from this public hometest I saw online. x-x

And for engineering, show you’re not a robot? I dunno if that’s a worry Cooper/other eng schools have or what but eh. It’s what I tried to do.
