I’ve heard mixed reviews from people, some claiming that Cornell looks at your senior 1st quarter grades and others saying that you don’t. As someone is applying ED, i would like to know if anyone could tell me Cornell’s policy on that. Also, does anyone happen to know how important these 1st quarter grades are when applying ED to Cornell?
I know that when D applied ED, an admissions counselor from Cornell called her GC to check on her first Q grades about 2-3 weeks before ED admit announcement day
As soon as my first quarter grades came out, i sent them in.
My grades were a huge upward trend so i think they were happy to see my grades and course rigor.
@themunster1 yes, Cornell will want to look at your first quarter grades. Have your GC send them. If not, then admissions will most likely call your GC to get them.
S3 applied ED and was deferred. He was told that the ADCOM wanted to see his semester grades and course scheduled for the balance of Sr year. He was admitted in the April 1 round.
@3rdsontocollege For which year and which college/school? There are seven colleges/schools and they do their own admissions independently. Hard to believe they all have the same policies. No where on Cornell undergraduate admissions web site can I find requirement for first quarter grades. It asks for mid-year report only.
When my D applied to College of Human Ecology they called her GC. Can’t speak to the other 6 colleges.
^yes.
@TiggyB62 - This past year and he was admitted to Human Ecology.
@3rdsontocollege my D’s GC sent them in. She’s in CAS.
Thanks for all the answers! Im applying to the school of engineering by the way.
Pretty sure engineering students are getting the most phone calls asking for q1 grades–according to my GC. Not sure about AAP because I heard AAP cares less about grades
