1320 SAT...29 ACT...arghhhhhh!

<p>Ok, so I took the ACT in December and I was pleased with my 29, it was the first time I took it.</p>

<p>I took the Jan. SAT and got a 1240 CR+M, which I was okay with, but my PSAT predicted a 1310.
So I just got the March SAT results back today, and I got a 1320…ten points shy of getting a UA Scholar scholarship. </p>

<p>Now, I remember hearing, I think on this forum, that some kids that had a 31 ACT or 1380 SAT, etc… were still awarded the Presidential Scholarship, even though they technically didn’t make the cut, but they had a high GPA or had some pretty good ECs. I was wondering if Bama did the same thing for the UA Scholarship, because the rest of my app will be pretty good with ECs and GPA, etc… The $3,500 scholarship is nice, but with that alone I would probably not come to Bama.</p>

<p>But I’m planning on taking the SAT in May and in June if I have too. I’m going to try the June ACT as well. I have a few workbooks that I used last time and I’m going to ramp it up even more with the BB. </p>

<p>But hopefully I’ll have another 80 point increase on my CR+M score like last time, 1400+ is the end goal. </p>

<p>If you major in engineering or computer science then…</p>

<p>*Students who have a 30-31 ACT or 1330-1390 SAT (math and verbal scores only) and at least a 3.5 cumulative GPA will receive a tuition supplement to bring their University-level scholarship offer up to the value of tuition. In addition, they will receive $2,500 per year for four years. *</p>

<p>retake the test … but prepare for it. don’t count on them bumping up your scholarship. </p>

<p>Found it. In this thread, Boomu mentions they were lenient about the requirements. But this was for last year, so who knows if they still do it. </p>

<p>But, no, I’m not interested in Engineering or Comp Sci, but those extra scholarships sure look nice. I’m probably going to go into something like Econ or Political science. </p>

<p>Yeah, I’m definitely going to re-take. Last time I didn’t use the BB, but I just read other practice things and practice books, and still ended up raising my score from a 1240 to a 1320. So I’m going to keep going with the other strategy books and take 3-4 BB tests by May 1. </p>

<p>Boomu is not saying that a student is given the Presidential if the student doesn’t meet the req’ts. He’s saying that some kids who didn’t meet the req’ts were given scholarships later.</p>

<p>That is true… But that is more about GPA than SAT/ACT…</p>

<p>For instance…a couple of years ago, Bama used to require the same SAT/ACT scores, BUT they also required a 3.75 GPA. That 3.75 GPA kept some kids from automatically getting scholarships. A friend of my son’s had an ACT 33, but a 3.7 GPA…so, at first, he wasn’t given ANYTHING. But, later, in the spring, he was given the Presidential (and Bama reduced the req’t to 3.5 for the following year.)</p>

<p>So…theoretically, no, you won’t be given the Presidential (or whatever) if you don’t have the right SAT/ACT. But, if they look over your transcript and see that you just missed the GPA req’t for some odd reason, they may LATER award you the scholarship. </p>

<p>If you’re not going to be in the COE, then don’t expect the Presidential without the minimum SAT or ACT.</p>

<p>Bama’s policy is this…every student who doesn’t qualify for a university scholarship, but has a GPA of 3.0 and an ACT of XX (I forget…LOL) will be considered for a scholarship to be awarded in the Spring. But that doesn’t mean it will be one of the listed ones. It could be for whatever amount they decide to give.</p>

<p>Retaking isn’t an option, a lot of my schools I’m looking at don’t accept Score Choice, and when I took it for the 1390 it was already too many times, but I needed to get a better score. After taking the test, I thought I did a lot better on CR, and checking the consolidated list on CC made me even more confident…and then I end up with a 690… </p>

<p>Now I’m relatively happy with my 1390, 2/3 tuition scholarship will be really nice, but 10 points away from free tuition is really bugging me, could save like $25,000+ over 4 years. </p>

<p>I’m probably going to order the Score Verification service. Doubt something will come of it, but all I need is a reversal on 1 question to bump me up, but I’m not expecting it. </p>

<p>I took the ACT in June as well. I thought I did very well on English, Reading and ok on Math, but probably not so well on science. Science killed my score last time and most likely will this time, but hopefully I can raise my composite up a little bit. </p>

<p>I’m probably going to prep really hard for the ACT with the rest of the summer and take it the first time they offer it in Sept or Oct, and focusing mostly on science. </p>

<p>…oh and Bama has not announced the changes to the scholarships(or if their will be any changes at all) yet, right? Probably wouldn’t help me, I could see them raising the standards a little or giving out less money because the economy still isn’t doing well.</p>

<p>Coollege, a 1390 is an excellent score. Why are you beating yourself up?</p>

<p>Apply to multiple colleges if money is a factor and see who gives you the best deal and who is the best fit for you.</p>

<p>re the science section on act…dont get hung up reading the questions…look at the graphs and tables…the answers are there…</p>

<p>Do not believe those kids who claim that 3 times or whatever is “too much.” </p>

<p>Schools don’t care how often you take the test. Some kids try to claim that schools do, but schools WANT you to have the highest score possible so that THEIR numbers improve. They’re not interested in screwing you over.</p>

<p>Which schools are you concerned about who you think will care about the number of times you take the test?? </p>

<p>I can see why you’re upset about the 1390…1400 is the cutoff at several schools for bigger scholarships.</p>

<p>If there are a few schools that you think will care how many times you take the test, then send those schools your scores NOW. Then retake and those schools will never see the fall test scores. </p>

<p>No school can see your fall test scores unless you send THEM scores at that time.</p>

<p>If you take the SAT in October and in Nov and only name Bama and other safeties as recipients, your other schools won’t get those scores. </p>

<p>You do have to send your scores to your other schools before taking the October exams, so that they don’t get those scores.</p>

<p>I’m sitting on the same SAT score, but I got a 30 last time on the ACT. Very frustrating. I get my ACT scores back tomorrow as well, good luck coollege, lets hope for a 32+.</p>

<p>I would say just take it again. I had a 1370 first time and was so upset to be short of the scholarship, and as a result, felt so much pressure to do well the next time. However, with no prep my score went up to 1410. So, I know how you feel and I understand that’s it’s frustrating, but don’t give up!</p>

<p>Retake the test. Recognize that if you don’t do as well as you had hoped, it is not the end of the world. PSAT, SAT and ACT scores are not everything. When all is said and done, you still did very well.</p>

<p>The one time I took the SAT I got a 1350 and the first time I took the ACT I got a 30, both without any prep. With only an hour spent the night before looking at the format of ACT questions, I retook the ACT hoping that I would get the 32 required for UA’s presidential scholarship. Low and behold, I got a 33 and knew that I could attend UA with a scholarship. Retake the SAT and/or ACT and keep us informed of your results.</p>
