1380 on psat a good score for a freshman?

I recently took the psat and got a 1380 out of 1600. Is this good for a freshman. How many points do I need to improve to stay competitive in the national merit scholarship. Thank you for your time.

Which PSAT?

I took a practice one using the same time parameters

psat or practice sat?

1380 is good for a freshman. how much you need to improve depends on your state. as a sophomore i got a 1400and was able to improve to a 1500 for national merit. i think you just need to get to a 1490 by the time you are a junior. good luck!

If you’re reporting your score out of 1600, you’re using an old practice test. The current PSAT is scored out of 76 on each section - and your sub-scores are important if you’re looking to become a national merit semifinalist. The scores you will need as a Junior are going to depend significantly on where you live. This year’s qualifying selection index ranged from 211 (also the cutoff for commended students) in ND and WV to 223 in CA and for international students. If you are in one of the states requiring a 220 or above, the lowest you can score on the verbal section is 71 out of 76 and that’s assuming a perfect 76 on the math. Perfect verbal would allow a math score of 67 of 76. So you are within range to score high enough your junior year, if you don’t stagnate.

I live in Texas, so how much would I need to improve?
