I’ve taken the SAT twice already, and each time, I’ve ended up with a sub-1400 score. My current super-score is a 1400, and I’m wondering how difficult it will be to raise my score to be ivy-league competitive (or top-20), which looks to be about 1460+. What study tips do you have to raise my score up to a competitive level, and how important is it for me to get that score?
I believe an ivy-league competitive SAT score would be well over 1530. If you are planning to get into an ivy-league school, it is best for you to get that score!
its only one element of an application and there are people who get in with low 1400 scores, but these people have amazing accomplishments or hooks. Even bringing it up to a 1500 isn’t going to get you in by itself.
In general, the higher your score is the harder it is to increase it significantly. My D worked with a private tutor. They reviewed her first sore report together and tutor developed an individualized plan to target the specific areas where there was room for growth. If you are looking to do it yourself, my recommendation is figure out if you are stronger in math or language then look at the specifics on the report and see where you think you can improve the most. Then use Khan Academy or prep books and focus on just those sections. D was able to raise her score 130 points by only working on 3-4 different areas but it was a lot of work, 3 hours a week for 4 months. Her final score is in line with what you need.
