Is there actually an official score conversion chart between the act and the sat? I took both tests just in case I could do significantly better on one than the other, but my scores ended up being around the same for both. Would it look better if I submit my act score my sat score or both? By the way, I’m still a junior so I may retake the act to improve, but if I don’t, which one would look better to colleges?
According to conversion tables online, a 32 ACT is about a 1450-1480 on the SAT. Depending on the colleges you’re planning on applying to, you might want to retake the test.
The 32 ACT looks better. The 1400 translates to a 30, and the 32 can translates to a 1450-1480.
(BTW I used the conversion table on Prepscholar. Just google it, the link that I put was deleted)
First of all, the concordance table from CB is not really accurate and is not agreed by ACT. So it is just as a reference. Don’t count on it. Second, a more reliable percentile chart for the new SAT score has been published and that can be compared with ACT percentile chart. From that, you can see the concordance table is off and there is a revision pending. Third, each school may look at the section scores differently. Some schools may only use some of the section scores or put more emphasis on one section than the others. It is hard to judge if one ACT composite score is better than a certain SAT score unless there is a drastic difference. Fouth, even most schools would not cross test super score, but it may still help if one slightly weaker section is complemented by a higher score in the other test. For instance, if you have 29 in ACT math but 780 in SAT math, it may be very helpful for the schools that look at section scores closely. In most cases, submitting both scores and let the school picks would be my advise if you can afford it.
SAT totals and composites can matter less than the subscores, as billcsho notes. It somewhat depends on your possible major. If you flub a SAT or ACT part that relates to your major, it can be an oops. So look at that detail.
@billcsho thanks! I got a 35 E 34 R 30 M & 27 S and then on the SAT I got a 710 M and 690 EBR if that helps
@lookingforward I scored the lowest (27) in science and I want to major in biology, however in my opinion the ACT science test is more reading than actual science. Do you think my low science score would look bad to colleges since I plan to major in bio?
Will you have a biology and a chemistry subject tests?
The curve on the Science portion of the ACT is very unforgiving. When my daughter took it, most of her friends reported that Science was their lowest score.
The jury is still out on concordance between ACT/SAT but at present the ACT would be considered a somewhat better result. However, they are both good and your SAT is evenly distributed, which is also better than a lopsided score.
Science section is about data interpretation and it contributed to the STEM score. So it is somewhat useful in admission depending on your intended major and school.
@MYOS1634 I will definitely have a chem subject test, as I am taking AP chem this year. Is AP bio required/recommended for the bio subject test? I am not taking AP bio until senior year, however I did take honors bio freshman year and did well in it.
No, for subject tests just honors bio or honors chem (or regular if you complete a bit on your own.)
hey yall should i send my SAT 1350 680 English 670 math super scored) or ACT scores ( 30 composite 35 english 29 Math 27 reading 28 science and 08 essay not superscored) ??
