I got a 1490 on my 3rd SAT attempt (770 M, 720 R/W) I know your not supposed to take it for a fourth time, but would it be worth it to take the ACT? I’m interested in Generic T20 Schools. (My GPA is a 3.75 and I’d consider my ECs to be moderate)
When you say “generic T20 Schools,” are you talking about Ivy’s, public, LACs, or what?
I agree you should not take the SAT again.
There’s no reason not to take the ACT unless it’s a financial issue. If you get a 33 or better, then you can just submit the ACT and not the SAT.
Your GPA is a bit on the low side for the very selective schools. Hopefully that’s brought up a bit with this year’s grades. Also, if your weighted GPA is in the mid-4’s, that would be great. Your academic rigor is important. From looking at this year’s pool, schools put more weight on GPA and academic rigor than standardized test scores. Both are important before, but, for example, a 1500 SAT and 3.95 UW GPA is better than a 1580 and a 3.6.
Take the ACT.
What were your prior SAT scores ?
Hey, Thanks for the in-depth information. Im a full DP, 4 HL student, so course rigor is good. I think that I will attempt to take the ACT in order to get something that can make up for my lack luster Freshman/Sophomore years.
I plan to take the Chemistry/Math 1 Subject test in the future. How much could that help my standardized testing portfolio?
I am doing the same thing. If you did bad in chemistry/ moderate in math and score very high (740+) it would make you seem like a better candidate because you took more personal time to attempt a subject which you previously did bad in. Plus, it seems like you are actually good at those subjects, but you just did bad in the class which also makes it seem like you are competent for college level sciences / maths.
I would give the ACT a shot. My son got 1490 on the SAT. He took the ACT and got a 35 (36 math & English; 33 Science & Reading).
Same as @mamma1st’s son with 1490 & 35
