1490 vs 1500

I know this is a stupid question, but would admisssions people see a 1500 a lot differently than a 1490?

yes. they will always notice the # in front the most. just like on the ssat. there's a bigger difference between a 79th percentile and an 80th than an 80th and 81st.

I'd say yes.

no..............

no. colleges know that the difference between a 1490 and a 1500 and even a 1490 and a 1550 is only a question or two or three. not that big of a deal. IMo anyone capable of getting a 1450+ can get a 1600 if they're lucky enough.

yes! definately. Its psychology. No matter what you do, it will definately be looked up differently, no matter what any one says on this post (I say this respectfully). Consider $19.99 and $20 . PSYCHOLOGY SAYS SO.

...except that admissions officers at schools whose applicants have 1450+ aren't idiots, while the people who actually think that $19.99 is a better price for an item than $20 are.

I agree that psychology suggests that a 1500 would be taken quite differently than a 1490. However, I would like to remind posters that at a lot of college admin offices officers (this isn't true everywhere, of course) don't see "1490" or "1500" but rather "740 Math" and "750 Verbal." Often, crossing the 650, 700, or 750 threshold means more than crossing the 1400 or 1500 threshold. For example, my recent "1510" of "740 Verbal" and "770 Math" will probably be taken in less esteem than an equivalent "1510" of "750 Verbal" and "760 Math" because the second score has crossed both 750 thresholds. Something to think about.

Wait, so you mean thresholds of individual scores would count as well? There's a 50 point difference in my SAT scores (discounting the writing) it's 770V and 720M, does that make the score likely for less esteem because one crossed a threshold and another did not?

What is after the 650 threshold? Is it 500? Followed by 400? So it would look something like this:?

400, 500, 650, 700, 750?

Any other opinions?

Um, I don't think admissions officers are THAT dumb.

Crap. Should I cancel for UW-Seattle and UIUC?

Predicted May SAT: 420v, 700m, 540w.
