since 14P and 19P means you have unlimited swipes and can swipe people in cafeterias, does that also mean you can swipe a friend into the all you can eat buffets so that friend wont have to get a meal plan? itll be cheaper for two people..

That’s theoretically possible, but you would have to accompany your friend whenever he/she wants to eat something. Given that most people at UCLA have vastly different schedules, it’s probably more trouble than it’s worth.

Also, if you live on the hill, you’re required to have some kind of meal plan. So your friend would have to get 11 Cub at the very least.

maybe its just me being oblivious buut, whats the difference between 14P and 19P? I thought that it meant 14 and 19 meals respectively but if they’re both unlimited, I guess I interpreted it incorrectly?

No, you interpreted it correctly - the number refers to the number of swipes per week. I think the OP misunderstood that the advantage of premier is that you can use multiple swipes in the same dining period, whereas regular plans only allow you to use one. They say you can use an unlimited amount each period; the reality is that you’re limited only by the number of swipes you have left for the quarter.

Premier plans give you the entire balance of your meal plan as a lump sum at the beginning of the quarter. You can use any number of swipes whenever/however you want, including swiping for other people, as long as your balance > 0.

Regular plans give you only the specified number of meals per week, so they don’t roll over if you don’t use them all. You’re also restricted to one swipe per meal period, so you can’t swipe in friends.

joanne1neo,

As far as I know, they still require anyone who’s on campus to have a meal plan no matter what. You can’t “split” a meal plan that way in any effective way.

so if you get the 14P or 19P meal plan, you don’t actually have a specific number of meals that you’re restricted to per week? as long as you stay within the specified number of meals per quarter—

Yup, that’s correct!

which meal plan do you guys suggest? can someone explain each one to me?

It depends on how much you’re planning on eating. For example, if you’re planning on going home every weekend, the 11 plan might work for you. Most people I know have 14 or 14P, but it’s really your individual choice. The premier/regular difference was pretty well explained above, I think.

You’re able to upgrade or downgrade (with a $25 fee), so if you find that one isn’t working out, you can definitely change.
