15%+ application increase: 28,823

^ From today's StudLife.

Good luck to everyone applying. Wash U is an amazing school; I hope you are able to visit in the spring, and that we'll see you campus in the Fall :)

Applications surge, echoing US trend | Student Life

I didn’t get a chance to grab a StudLife today, but damn. 15.5% is a huge increase.

A 15% increase in applicants in combination with last year’s freshmen overenrollment is going to make admission very, very difficult this year.

Wash U Undergrad Admissions 2011: Waitlisted.

uncannycrayon, are you saying regular admission decisions were released?

will this mean the acceptance rate will be sub-20% this year?

Man, I applied because I didn’t think WUSTL would be that popular…

I think it’s reasonable to assume that the acceptance rate will be below 20% for various reasons: such a significant increase in applicants, the StudLife article said we’re aiming for a slightly smaller freshman class, and we over-enrolled this year.

The year before I applied it was either 17 or 18%, then it went up slightly the year I applied to 20%.

Any guesses for this year? I’m throwing out 15%.

No, I’m saying that will be the theme of when they are released.

This doesn’t surprise me. I was one of 53 students from my region (or however Naviance does it) to apply. Last year it was 23!

my mind is boggled.

In our high school, which is halfway across the country, the number of apps to WashU has increased dramatically in the past 3 years, as has the number who have chosen to attend when accepted.
