I saw someone say that apps have increased this year, but by exactly how much? Has the figure been released?

Don't believe everything you hear - unless it is from a reliable source, this hardly sounds like a reliable source.

From Chancellor Wrighton's letter to the WashU community:

"But the reputation of Washington University rests not only on its faculty and programs; of equal importance are the students. (When the deadline for applications to the Class of 2013 passed on January 15th, more than 23,000 students had applied for one of the 1,400 spots in the class, making this the largest and the most competitive pool of applicants in the Universitys history.) "

It was a very marginal increase over last year, so largest - yes in regard to absolute numbers; but statistically not significant. For all practical purposes it could be considered the same as last year.

^ Total applications last year were 22,005, so at least 1,000 more people applied this year. With the economy the way it is, a 5% increase in applications is not bad at all.

I think that due to the economic crisis, they'll accept a bit more than last year. At the same time, there will be a few kids who will get in but aren't able to go there if they can't afford it.

Interesting, but sensible post jaygoody. Does anyone know what WUSTL's yield rate was like last year?

offer rate: 21% and enrollment / yield rate: 32% at last year.
