15 vs 18 credits?

Hello,

I was wondering if this is a lot to handle? I’m a SuperJunior with over 120 credits. I transfer back in Fall 2017 from CC and since then I basically restarted as Freshman but with 64 credits from CC. Now I’m three semesters away from graduating and I was wondering if this is a lot.

ABIO130 Gen Bio: Molecular & Cell Bio (Only reason is that I want to do a master’s in ecology if math doesn’t work out)

AHIS 336 History/Early Mid. Ages ( History minor)

AHIS 389 Adv. Topics in Asian History (History elective)

Course Topic(s): N. Korea:Hstry, Culture, Polit
AHST 361 Archaic and Classical Greece (History minor)

AMAT 362 Probability for Statistics (math requirement)

AMAT 409 Vector Analysis (math elective)

Now I’ve taken two math classes and two history classes before but I think adding biology I will probably be a lot. What do you think?

I would only have two more math courses after I complete Spring 2020. I will be finishing one over the summer and Fall 2020.

For my math major, I need a science minor. I only need one more atmospheric science course and honestly, for some reason, I keep getting Cs in the major requirements and I was thinking if I should go with Chemistry minor since I’m like two classes away from finishing and I feel more confident in chemistry then I do in ATM.

If you need a science minor why do you have so many history courses? How many science and math courses do you have left? I’d take the science and drop a history class or two, especially if you’re getting C’s in your major. You may be spreading yourself too thin with multiple minors.

Based on your posting history, 18 credits with any combination of classes is a bad idea. Drop the unneeded class - the elective.

Also, please check whether your college has a total credits limitation. My D’s school cancels financial aid after 150% of credits needed for a single major.

@austinmshauri I meant to say the minor I am struggling with is atmospheric science (2.43 GPA). My math major is 3.05 and my history minor is 2.70.

@itsgettingreal21 Been out of financial acid since Spring 2018/Fall2018.

@NASA2014 Then why not finish up in the least amount of time necessary? 1-2 semesters at the most. All of these minors are worthless.

Then why are you taking Biology and no Chemistry? Two classes away from what?

A first semester Freshman Bio class isn’t going to get you ready for a “ master’s in ecology if math doesn’t work out“

Math, History, Biology, Chemistry, Atmospheric Science? Only 2 classes to complete you major and you’re going to take two more semesters, and are already making contingency plans?

I suggest figuring out what you really want to do. Continuing to, I assume, accrue debt while hopping from subject to subject that don’t compliment the others doesn’t seem to make sense.

@RichInPitt Thank you. Now I’m debating if I should even take Gen Bio. Should I just not take biology at all? I would need to take quant lab but it doesn’t fit my schedule for Spring 2020. It would have to be for Fall 2020. My major is math and I need three more classes to complete which I will have done by Fall 2020. The major also requires two CS classes which I already have one but this semster I took a database class and I hope it counts as CS class. If everything goes as plan and my advisor grants the database course to be counted as CS then I will be done by Fall 2020.

@RichInPitt The reason why I want to take Gen Bio is that I heard many Ecology programs at least require some course background in Gen Bio 1 and 2

You need to find out if a course counts toward your major before you take it, not after. Check with your advisor to lay out a plan to get all the courses you need to graduate. If you can graduate with just 2 more semesters, then any slots you have open after the major requirements are accounted for can be used for classes that interest you. But don’t overload. You don’t want to jeopardize your GPA.

I’m switching Biology to German 2. I want to continue with the language. I hope I can get a permission number since I can’t register due to a 100 level restriction.

My updated schedule now 16 credits.
AECO 301 Intermediate Macroeconomics
AGER 102 Elementary German II
AHIS 389 Adv. Topics in Asian History

  • Course Topic(s): N. Korea:Hstry, Culture, Polit
    AMAT362 Probability for Statistics

    AMAT409 Vector Analysis

Nobody cares about a History minor for a Math major. Employers won’t care and it is only dragging down your GPA. Get rid of extra History electives. Now you make care, but it won’t matter if you took a few history classes because of interest vs an Official Minor.
Also based on your grades, adding a lab science will only drag them down further.

I’ve done decent on labs Gen Chem 1 and 2 and organic Chem 1 and 2. I’ve added economics minor but I’m still debating if I should continue with German 2. I got permission to take it but I got D+ in German 1. History is my second favorite subject. I told myself that I would reach intermediate german 2 by my last semester (Spring 2021). @bopper

Over the summer I’m planning to finish the last major requirement for math (Linear Algebra ) and also will be taking Partial Differential equations. If possible I would add Intermediate microeconomics so I can stay on pace to graduate (need four classes to get econ minor which I need for my math major).

D+ in German? Drop it. These low grades are not helpful. Finish your degree requirements strong.

I don’t understand. You need 1 minor to graduate. You only need 1 atmospheric class to get the atmospheric minor, 2 for a chem minor, and 4 for econ. Why would you switch minors so late in the game? You went from needing 4 classes to graduate (3 math and 1 Atmos. science) to needing 7. So now instead of graduating in summer 2020 or fall 2020, you’re pushing it to spring 2021. How many more semesters are your parents willing to pay for?

@austinmshauri Spring 2021 was always my graduation year. I’m in my second semester of junior year with 126 credits. I would love to continue with atmospheric science minor but my minor GPA is 2.43 and for history is 2.70. I think I would stick econ and history minor.

Do you need 1 minor to graduate or 2? If you only need one why not stick with history?

I was told that the history minor won’t count towards the major because it has to be a science minor.

Only the following minors can be declared:

Atmospheric Science, Biology, Business,

Chemistry, Computer Science, Economics,

Electronics, Physics, or Informatics.
