1550 Good enough for HYPS??

Just got my SAT scores back- 1550....certainly not bad but part of me was hoping for a 1580-1600. At the risk of sounding stuck up or whatever- is a 1550 good enough to be a strong suit on an app to HYPS? I have a solid app, but I was hoping for a really good score to boost my chances and give me more confidence. I got 800 verbal and 750 math, so I'm thinking if I retake for an 800 math (which I've gotten numerous times on practice) then maybe I could shoot for the 1600 composite....but then again....maybe I should just forget it....By the way I'm a junior so that's why I can take again in Dec...I know I know I should take the new SAT but I'd really rather not have to bother with the essay and all...anyway so overall should I shoot for it with a retake or is what I've got good enough to complement a pretty strong app? Thanks mucho for the help!

Well, you're going to have to take the Writing SAT II if you don't take the new SAT anyway...

But still, there is no way a 1550 would ever hurt you. After all, it's above their average SAT score! It's not like a 1550 will be an automatic acceptance, but HYPS know that there isn't really such a big difference between a 1550 and a 1600.

However, if you really think you can get an 800... I guess it would be worth it. If you're going to take the math IIC SAT II though and think you can get an 800 on that, there's not much point. :D

A 1450 or higher really cannot hurt you in the slightest when applying to HYPS. You're in their range.

Wouldn't retake a 1550. You are solidly in the running. I would retake anything under 1500 for those schools though, really disagree with the above.

1550...idk its not perfect...

this is so ridiculous

It almost ****es me off.

This is a really stupid thread. We all know you can't get in without the 1600.

I'm just kidding, but in a sense you can answer your own question. I mean even if you had 1600 that doesn't mean your in at HPYS, anyone can tell you that.

I think ppl who asks these questions don't even deserve to go to HYP. No confidence in their awesome scores.
