156 on PSAT...

I'm only 14 and I got a 156 on the PSAT last year when I took it. My scores were:

critical reading ===> 56
math ===> 50
writing skills ===> 50

Is this good? What percentile would I be in?

it’s about average for a hs student

A 156 is around the 50th percentile, I think. It’s a more or less average score.

It’s average :)

It’s average, but if you are shooting for a more than average school (UCs, Ivies, Stanford, MIT, etc.) you’ll definitely need to raise it to 190 or 200 for UCs at least, and higher for Ivies and such. If you have any schools in mind already, you could probably google and find their Freshman Admission Profile–it’d show the average SAT scores of those accepted. BTW, to get your estimated SAT score from PSAT just add a zero at the end–your’s would be 1560.

But you’re only fourteen :slight_smile: So I wouldn’t worry too much. Just focus in school and then study hard when SATs come around your Junior+Senior years

It should tell you what percentage you are in on the PSAT score report

lol if it makes you feel better got like a 170 on my PSAT---->1820 SAT scored first time…with some prepping here and there :confused: (not too intensive–but isn’t supposed to measure my aptitude?LOL). I’m retaking again this weekend. And maybe again in the fall…i know it sucks…reaaally bad.

Don’t worry I’m sure you’re smart & you can easil raise that 156 in no time with the right kind of prepping. :slight_smile: You’ve still got a lot of time.

i got like a 175 or something. maybe lower. maybe higher. cant really rremember. although mainly because i didnt know what the SAT was…i didnt realize it was even meaningful…and while we were taking it our guidance counselor kept urging us to hurry up and finish because the auditorium was needed for cheerleader practice. lols. not that i care…

Don’t worry if you don’t think your scores are good enough. They will go up if you take the PSAT again and once you take the SAT (as long as you study).

I’m not trying to put you down, but many of my classmates attained higher than those scores in 7th grade. (Well, they’re also asian, and one scored a straight 800 math and 800 reading.) I scored 750 math and 700 reading. (And I’m also asian, with crazy Kumon parents.)

Those scores aren’t bad or anything, but they’re not particularly well-competitive. If you’re trying to get into a prestigious, selective school just apply yourself and study, pick up an SAT book. Nothing to freak out over. Ivy League, study a lot harder (but you’re already on the right track.). :)

^What reason could you have to mention those scores besides “put[ting the OP] down”?

I’d say 156 isn’t bad for you as a Freshman. Put some study time into it, and I’m sure you’ll improve.

Also, National Merit Semifinalist/Finalist, being top 99th percentile (typically around a score of 214) in your junior year helps, so get cracking :)

Also, if it helps, I got around the same score as you did last year (14 y/o) and took the Explore test (act for 9th graders) and scored in the 99%tile.

Just study hard for the psats and sats :)

As put succinctly on another forum - “dick weighing”

I got 214 in 9th grade :)

I would also like to participate in putting the OP down.
I got a 201 this year on the PSAT as a freshman.

…

-_-

You guys suck.

Ohhh, my bad! It’s just that I was under the impression that the OP thought that 156 on the PSAT was good - it’s not good, but it’s definitely not bad. My apologies!

Also…I’m a girl…

^I use “guy” as a word for both males and females.
“Dick weighing” can apply to girls. Because “breast weighing” isn’t a phrase and would be awkward anyway.

I don’t understand the OP’s question though. Doesn’t the score report say the percentile on it?

Because dick weighing isn’t awkward.

EDIT: it’s clearly less feasible too
