18, entering college freshman...Anyone else feel old?

*some (10char)

**few (10char). Please excuse these typos; I’m writing from my phone.

Wait till you graduate from college, people. I just graduated, and I feel so old that I sometimes wonder why I haven’t started keeling over yet. You’re a freshman - trust me, you’re young! You’ll be one of the youngest people on campus, and you’ll make all the seniors feel ancient. Enjoy it!

First of all, it is insulting to say you are 18 years of age and feel old. It’s also a joke. You need to slap yourself in the face. You probably just want attention or something, but I’ll give you advice anyway.

As you get more responsibility you will become more in charge of your life, and you will be able to make your own decisions. It’s great. You have complete freedom to do whatever you want. Sure you are going to make some mistakes, but that is what life is about. And moving away from your parents allows you to make mistakes. If you already regret your high school education then why are you going to college?

I have a friend that graduated high school one year early because she worked so hard. Then she graduated college one year early too. She majored in a special field of engineering where women are very rare. She did this because she knew that she would be valued and she would get PAID! But alas, the age old tale came true and she was miserable with her job. She has since moved to costa rica and has no idea what she is doing anymore.

Don’t be like her. Choose a major that you love. Find a passion in your life and DON’T do it for money. Even though we live in a poor economic time, it’s safe to say you will always have food on your plate. So choose something you love to do, because you are going to spend the rest of your life doing it. Making money or having the top score at a university isn’t going to make you happy. What makes you happy is you. So I guess what you said is true. It’s time to grow up and realize what that is. But don’t feel old, seriously I really do want to slap you for saying that.

This. I vouch for this!

I think it’s natural to feel kind of old at 18 because you are outgrowing your childhood surroundings, which is really the only thing you know, and experiencing a lot of really big life changes, especially if you go to college. Once you get to college though you’ll probably feel a lot younger.

Personally I don’t feel old and i’ll be 20 this December, but thats just me. I can understand why you’d feel old at 18, but like RoxSox says once you get to college you’ll probably feel younger again.

I didn’t feel old until found out another (ANOTHER) person I went to high school with is pregnant. My freshman class had twelve people in it (yeah, twelve, not a typo). Three out of that twelve is now or has been pregnant.

Ugh. I don’t know how they do it. I definitely don’t feel old enough to be handling a baby:/

^^ True dat. I’m not having any kids until I’m at least 28+. It’s weird reading facebook pages of people I went to HS with 3 years ago.

^True that, I mean I will sometime joke with friends that I am “old” but I don’t actually feel it until I see people I went to high school with pregnant or engaged…

Nah, I don’t feel old… I’m just a 29 year old junior…

What are you talking about? Freshman are wise beyond their years…

… so 87 pairs of shoes? Too little right?

I will be 19. I’m a American studying abroad. I feel old too, yikes.

Ok I am an old man 52 yo. I was just checking out some of the students posts. Because I have one S that is a freshman and you guys give great advice on these forums.

Let me tell all you that age is totally a matter of attitude. Remain positive and always strive to educate yourself dont settle for anything less and you will feel young forever.

Life is all about stages: day care to kindergarten to elementary to middle school to high school. All of these changes took places while you were living at home and for the most part everything was done for you. NOW the next step everything falls on you. So you are probably overwhelmed and a bit confused. But rest assured that in short order you will be once again in control and look back at these times and ask yourself why did I worry?

In Life I suggest that you take it one day at a time. And let it come to you. Just stay prepared and ready to CHANGE. And welcome change as an oppotunity not as a roadblock.

good luck to all you you and remember to stay positive.

I’m only 20 and I feel “old”. I basically raised myself so I’ve always been very mature for my age. I want to shake my friends who are my age and yell at them to grow up quite often.

Now that you will be going to college, you will have a chance to make up for your lack of fun so far.

"First of all, it is insulting to say you are 18 years of age and feel old. It’s also a joke. You need to slap yourself in the face. You probably just want attention or something, but I’ll give you advice anyway. "

Lol Magnum. You serious? You sound like such a nice person! Very nice! (sarcasm if you didn’t catch that) Also, why is it insulting for her to say she feels old at the age of 18? (I think I already know the answer to this but I will give you the benefit of the doubt).
