I’m a high school junior. I took the SAT for the first time in December. I got a 1800 overall with a 590 in both reading and math and a 620 in writing.
This is nowhere where I need to be for my dream schools.
I took prep for the old SAT and this is my last chance to take them before they change…
Realistically, can I increase my scores enough to reach a 2100? Should I focus on the math and reading because most colleges look at that over writing (which is currently my highest)?
You don’t have much time to improve for the January SAT. At this point, you should probably just take as many tests from the blue book as you can while reviewing your mistakes. Please keep in mind that a 300 point increase is extremely difficult to attain in such a short time span. Good luck.
For writing, Erica Meltzer’s SAT Writing book will make it virtual impossible to get less than a 750 with intesne use (only took me 2 weeks to increase from a 550 to a 770) math is pure practice and mastering the basic rules and concepts, find the type of questions you are missing and attack. Critical Reading is all about finding the technique that works for you, there are many great critical reading guides on college confidential. Remember practice practice practice and LEARN FOR YOUR MISTAKES!
Junior year got 1850 on SAT with no studying.
Started taking ACT practice tests and grades ranged from 32-33…a LOT higher than my SAT scores.
Got a 34 on actual thing after 2 months of hardcore studying. Took Sat also recently after just to see how I’d do. Got 2020.
Either way, if you study hard…like really hard…any score is possible.
I agree with @Alpha101 because I have a friend who took the SAT without studying and got 1750 but when she took the ACT without studying she got a 32 (which equates to a 2120) remember they are equally important, infact I think the ACT is becoming more popular.
