I had got 1860 on the June SAT and sent it to 4 schools (free ones). On the September ACT, I got a 34. Due to this huge difference, I’m worried it may cause me harm. So, I would like to pull back my SAT scores from the 4 places. Is it possible? I had called Georgia Tech about it because I had applied there for Early Action (Oct 15 deadline). They said, "We mostly consider the top scores. It’s dependent on the person who reviews it. But if you really don’t want us to see it, you could ask the college board to pull back your scores. I’m not sure, but it has happened, I guess. "
I don’t have much clarity on the issue now. I would really appreciate someone’s help in this. Thank you!
The only thing that is clear is that the person you talked to at Georgia Tech is probably a low level admissions employee who needs additional training because he knows very little about Gtech’s admission practices.
You cannot take back your scores. That is true of every college. But all colleges profess that when you submit multiple tests, they do not use lower scores against you.
Whenever I get to each question, I take 20 seconds at most to answer everything, and if I don’t know an answer I move on. Worked like a charm! Hope it will carry me to Vandy!
Just for Georgia Tech, I assure you that their admissions officers will evaluate the 34 and the 1860 will probably simply be ignored. They have your best interest in mind and won’t turn you down with a 34 unless your score is the only good part of your application.
Up until this year, GT was so generous that it converted ACT section scores into SAT and gave a super-duper score combining the best section from both tests into a singular score. The only reason they don’t now if because of the new SAT. They’re trying to make you look as good as possible.
I believe @drusba is correct that you cannot pull back scores. Regardless, I can’t see many colleges saying, “Well, he would’ve gotten in easily with that 34, but the SAT he submitted nullifies that.”
They are looking for reasons to admit you, not reject you. Your 34 just gave them a really good reason. It’s not as if the adcoms manually calculate every score. Their systems generate a superscore and update it as new scores arrive.
Try emailing the regional rep’s at each of the other three schools who received your earlier SAT,
and request that they use your September ACT score.
It may not help at all, but at worst it will let them know that you know how to communicate and ask for what you want, and at best it will reach them in time to consider the impressive new score in your file review.
