I took the new SAT and when converted to the old score, got exactly a 1950. I know this was the minimium for the old SAT for St. Andrews, so would I be able to get in with it? I’ll have one SAT 2 score (750 in US History) along with 5 APs along with this.
AP’s will be more important than SAT scores. What are the AP’s in, and what course are you looking to read for?
What degree programme are you going for - that will make a difference.
@elguapo1 @londondad thank you for the responses! I will have APs in US Gov, Comp Gov, English Language and US History. I am looking to major in economics, IR or modern history. (Ideally a blend of economics and one of those two)
And what scores do you expect to get in the APs?
IR is one of their more competitive subjects for admission.
Expecting 5s with maybe one 4 (I have an A in the courses rn). IR def looks very hard to get into, but would something like econ or modern history be easier?
Compared to IR, yes.

APs in US Gov, Comp Gov,<<<<<<<<

Aren’t these combined to count as 1AP for UK schools? So that means 4 Aps, does that matter? is St A Less stringent than British schools?
St Andrew’s is a British university, it’s just got a reputation for being, um, accommodating to Americans. But really most will accept three APs, which should be OK. Calc would have been a plus if applying for Economics, but too late now, and I don’t think it’s a dealbreaker at St Andrew’s.
So 1950 on SAT, can I get in?
Maybe. We can’t say more than that.
@froshprospective Are you a senior and when do you expect your AP results?
All AP results are announced in July
@elguapo1 I’m a senior and will find out in July
@Sybylla, yes Comp Gov & US Gov combine- and OP, you really want a 5 in both of those. You still have plenty of APs.
to be clear StAs is a British uni- just not an English one.
@froshprospective If you receive an offer it will be conditional on your AP results, so be prepared to wait until July when your AP results are known. There is zero chance you will receive an unconditional offer from any UK school without your AP results (unless you have the required SAT II scores which you don’t). The good news is you will be in the same boat as UK and EU kids who will also be waiting until summer for their national exams results, so if your prepared to wait, make sure you work hard to get 5’s. Good luck.
