1st quarter planned schedule?

How many units are you guys taking?

I already asked this on the anteater forum, but it's common to take just 12 right?

I'm thinking hum core and one poli sci intro class will be enough on my plate for my first uni quarter.

for me:
humcore and P9

or

P9, writing 39, and breadth

so 12 or so.

not sure yet

Honors Humcore 1A (8)
Math 2A (4?)
Social Science 3A (4?)

is that 16? I don't even know haha -_-

I'm a bit confused, can you guys help me with this. I look at the websoc thing and I see this:

===

My question is, what are those "0 unit" discussion classes? We don't enroll in those during our enrollment period do we?

^ I'm very confused about that as well! Why are these discussion classes worth zero units?

bump for help

I have no idea what it means to be '0', but i can tell you my classes for my first quarter

1.) Humanities-Core
2.) Economics...20-a? or whatever the first economics class is.

Yeah.. .only two classes, hehe. im thinking of adding more though, to get rid of my breadth requirements faster.

don't worry about the number of units..almost all discussion classes are 0 units. It's worth 0 units because you don't receive a grade in discussion, only in lecture.
however, you're required to enroll in discussion

Which one though?

Like for the example I posted, which is for Intro to Micropolitics. When my window comes, I enroll for the lecture and then one of those 1-17 discussions?

The WebSOC is so confusing...I think I heard something during advising about discussions being the "categories" that the lectures fall under, but I wasn't really paying attention so don't take my word on it haha.

Anyway, my schedule is Humcore, Math 2A, and Econ 20B. Should be enough to keep me busy. >.>

my head hurts trying to plan out the days/times for classes!
and technically i have 7 classes, what with all the lectures, discussions, and forums :(

and also I've been checking out ratemyprofessors.com and I saw only horrible ratings for the Soc Sci 3A prof, so now I'm not going to take it first quarter. stupid, huh? haha

change of plans:

Uni Studies 11A (gets rid of as many breadths as humcore including writing 39C, IV and 3 courses from social sciences)
Writing 39B
P9

12 units

I've pretty much decided on

hum core
intro to micropolitics or intro to u.s. gov

and maybe one seminar. So 12 or 13 units.

I'm still a little unsure about what i want, but i need to figure it out very soon because my window is open next monday!

I'm looking at:

Chem 1A (4)
Bio Sci 93 (4)
Humanities 1A (8)

Hopefully this won't kill me. The zero unit discussions are one hour sessions that accompany a lecture. You have to sign up for a discussion if your lecture has one. From what I understand, this is where any possible classwork will occur. It's also where you might receive quizzes.

I enrolled this morning (CHP). I was really stupid and I thought I could enroll in ANY discussion I wanted, not realizing they actually had to be paired up with its corresponding lecture. hahah soooo contrary to what I HAD planned, I have an 8AM class. I was trying to avoid it like the plague.

I'm also sad Irvine didn't make a cool timetable for us so we could visualize our schedule. SO I made my own (ooo yes I am a major dork!)

So this is my schedule:
http://img133.imageshack.us/my.php?image=fall06ko9.jpg

i kind of have a stupid question. so im majoring in international studies and also didnt qualify for the writing placement. im taking writing 39A, international studies 11, and possibly some natural science to fill my breadth. but can anyone suggest me what sciences i should take please! greatly appreciated.

also it seems weird because for writing 39A there's only one class two days a week for about an hour and half and international studies intro is like 1 hour a week, it seems like i have no classes at alllllll.

for science, environmental is supposedly easy?
