So I've been wondering if first semester is going to be boring with nothing to do, or at least until fall break. since greek life is so central to social life at depauw, it seems like there wont be much to do. so should i just expect nothing to be going on really when its comes to parties, or do freshmen hang out with independents, or do some freshmen go to greek parties anyways?

bump…

I am a mom of an incoming freshman, and when she visited she was told that the parties were open to everyone.

Yeah but freshmen are technically not allowed on greek property until fall break. So what is there to do until then is what I’m wondering

I loved first semester of freshman year! It is true that you aren’t allowed on greek property until after fall break (Halloween weekend… so much fun!!!), but there are plenty of other ways to amuse yourself. Some freshmen do go to greek parties, but it’s really not worth it in my mind. A couple of organizations throw parties for their members to kick off the school year, and depending on which dorm you are in, there is the possibility of dorm parties so long as you have a “cool” RA. Overall, I remember hanging out in the dorms meeting other freshmen, going to some dorm parties, and hanging out watching movies, throwing dance parties, playing games, and just having fun. It’s really not as bad as it sounds and fall break comes faster than you realize!!!

Bond with your fellow freshman and build up a tolerance strong enough for the frats. You will find yourself at frats. Just let it happen.

Thanks, I was pretty excited before but I’m very excited now. I hope I have a cool RA, especially since he’s in my suite.
