1st Semester Senior Year?

I've seen a lot of threads on CC relating to the significance of 1st semester of senior year. But there have been so many varying answers, that I really need some clarification.

I understand that many colleges require a mid-year report in which you send your 1st semester senior year grades. But does this 'update' factor in GPA and rank? Would this mid-year report include the new GPA/rank that the colleges will factor into their decision, and not the transcript that people send in before the January 1st deadline?

It seems confusing to me that we would send transcripts with GPA/rank before the RD deadline, only to have the school send a new updated version. It sort of makes sense if the college was just using it to make sure you weren't bombing any classes, but how much weight would they put on the new GPA/rank?

A lot of people in other threads have just said to ask the respective OP's counselor, but it doesn't seem like it would make sense if this situation was different for each school. I mean it should be either everyone sends in an updated GPA/rank or everyone only sends just 1st semester grades, right?

Some colleges want your FINAL transcript once you’re done with high school so 1st semester AND 2nd semester are important.

But I was curious as to how much weight they put on the mid-year report as far as admission. Like what do they do with the new GPA/rank? Do they disregard the GPA/rank on the transcript I would send before RD deadline that doesn’t include my senior 1st semester?

As to how much they weigh the mid-year report, I’m clueless. But I’m sure they wouldn’t disregard the GPA/rank on the transcript you sent before.
