Does this course selection seem comfortable for first semester?

Chem 1410
Chem Lab 1411
Calc I 1310
Psych 1010 (Social Science requirement)
ANTH 2280 Medical Anthropology (Social Science requirement)

Seems manageable but worried that ANTH 2280 may involve a lot of reading.

Thanks!

I take it you’re currently pre-med? That looks like a reasonable courseload. I wouldn’t be worried about some random anthropology class as much as the chem lecture+lab. There’s a reason tons of athletes major in anthropology.

Yes, will take the pre-requisites for medical school, but will possibly major in Psychology.

Looks reasonable.

It is important for students to not overwhelm themselves their first semester, because it takes time to adjust to college life. It is easier if you are in classes that are mostly comprised of other first years who are undergoing the same adjustments, as opposed to a student who digs into multiple 3000 level classes their first semester, and finds themselves unable to keep up with 2nd and 3rd year students.

By the way, in non-technical fields, a 2000 level class is not necessarily harder than a 1000 level class.

It seems like a perfect mix. You don’t need a foreign language?

Tested into Spanish 2010 but assumed getting into that would be difficult so went with other core requirements instead. Also heard that the upper level Spanish classes are hard and wanted to keep first semester as simple as possible.

You will soon find out some of the toughest courses at UVA are the intros. You picked three tough ones in chem, calc and psych.

Chem - If you are good at math, you got it.
Calc - Gotta beat out the internationals.
Psych - The one class that is easy at other school but hard as hell here (Intro Bio is the same way).

GLHF!
