I will be applying to the Neuroscience program (while doing the pre-med track). and I am also having cognitive science as my back up major if neuro doesn't work out.

With orientation coming up, I have come up with a list of classes to take first semester. Can you guys tell me if its manageable?

MATH 1310 (4 units, for neuro)
CHEM 1410- lecture (3 units, for neuro + pre med)
CHEM 1411- lab lecture (2 units, for neuro + pre med)
CHEM 1411- lab (0 units, for neuro + pre med)
ANTH 1010- (3 units, to fulfill the non western perspectives for CLAS)
PSYC 2100 – lecture (3 units, to get a course under my belt in cog sci)

You will be fine with the Calc and the Chem together with two other classes. My S took that same schedule his first semester and did fine. Have multiple choices for the other two classes when you go to orientation.

I agree with mamalumper that calculus and chemistry ought to be the core of your schedule; then build around that. All the classes you list are large-lecture format so you might want to look for a smaller, seminar-style class instead of the anthro introduction. USEMS (interdisciplinary) and ENLTs (generally more writing-intensive and focused on literary topics) are small classes designed for first and second-year students. Freshman writing, if you are required to take it, is also taught seminar-style.

At your Orientation, you will receive a list of popular classes for first- and second-year students. Check it out–you might find something fascinating that you’ve never studied before. My S, a computer science major, loved Introduction to Hinduism, which fulfills the non-Western requirement.
