What classes do we need for you first year? I'm trying to make a mock schedule before orientation and I iknow we need a certain amount of credits in certain areas...

They don't need to be fulfilled in the first year.

Christine's right, but you definitely want to get a start on them your freshman year. It is assumed that these credits will be taken in course areas outside your major: 7 credits in each of natural science, social science, and humanities. 3 additional credits in 3 of the following 6 areas: the 3 mentioned above, Math & Symbolic Analysis, creative expression, and interdisciplinary studies. You also have a race and ethnicity requirement, a quantitative reasoning requirement, a foreign language requirement, and a lower-level writing requirement, though these are not considered distribution. Enjoy the scheduling. Feel free to PM me with questions or thoughts.

Typically, students take an introductory English class (English 125 or Great Books if honors) to meet the first-year writing requirement. They also might take some math-related class like MATH 115 or STATS 350. It's also a good time to get going with the foreign language requirement, if you haven't passed out of it. And then they would take one course in their prospective major, if they have one. For example, if you're thinking about being a psych major, take PSYCH 111 (intro class) to see if you really want to major in it. If you're pre-med, take the highest level of science classes you qualify for, etc. But like the above posters said, there's no rush. Ultimately, just take whatever you like first year. Keep it broad, and don't forget that you will have an advisor help you out.
