How much does first generation help in admissions? & what books would you suggest for help w/ the application process such as “Acing the College Application” - Michelle Hernadez

Srry, just saw the other thread...but the other question still stands...

The only book I would recommend is "Acing the College Application" by Hernandez. The problem with some other books is information overload. They will have 25 pages on college visits, and follow that with 25 pages on interviewing. The Hernandez book is the right size, it is concise, and it relates everything directly to the application form.

Anyone seriously thinking about HYPSM should read "Harvard Schmarvard" by Jay Mathews who is a Wash Post reporter and Harvard alum. Other insider books are "The Gatekeepers" by Steinberg, "Admissions Confidential" by Toors.

Jay Mathews, author of "Harvard Schmarvard," also has an article on the hottest colleges in the recent Newsweek. The first category is "Hottest College for Rejecting You: Harvard."
