What are my chances?

If you’re applying as a freshman, your GPA would be too low for many of the UC’s, including Cal Poly SLO which is a top CSU. For the other CSU’s maybe fine. Also, it depends on how impacted the schools are and that particular major.

Im a transfer student from a CC going to transfer as a Junior for fall 2012

Here’s their link for transfer students. [University of California - California community college transfers](http://www.universityofcalifornia.edu/admissions/transfer/requirements/community-college/index.html)

SJSU published GPA thresholds for fall 2011 transfer admissions to each major:
[SJSU Admission](http://info.sjsu.edu/web-dbgen/narr/admission/rec-1209.html)

Be sure to check on [Welcome to ASSIST](http://www.assist.org) to see what courses you need to take to transfer into your desired major at your desired UC or CSU.

So basically I cant get into SJSU because it says I need a 3.0 gpa which is crazy because TAG for UC"s are 3.0 so Im basically not guranteed anywhere

What major are you intending to transfer to SJSU for?

If it is Computer Science, which needed a 3.0 for fall 2011, take a look at the similar Software Engineering major, which needed a 2.0 for fall 2011.

Chemistry also needed a 3.0 for fall 2011, but Chemical Engineering needed only a 2.0 for fall 2011. Chemical Engineering generally has better job and career prospects at the bachelor’s degree level than Chemistry.

Im doing computer science

Take a look at the Software Engineering major at SJSU. It is very similar to the Computer Science major at SJSU, but needed only a 2.0 GPA for fall 2011 transfer admission (versus 3.0 GPA for fall 2011 transfer admission to Computer Science).

Actually im a computer engineering major my bad. So it says 2.6 and i have that so am i guranteed or not?

It is always possible that the Computer Engineering major could get more popular (higher GPA needed) or less popular (lower GPA needed) for fall 2012. That is true for any major, but if your GPA either far above or far below the fall 2011 threshold, that is less likely to make a difference than if your GPA is right at the fall 2011 threshold.

If you are local to SJSU (earned most of the college credits at schools in Santa Clara or Santa Cruz county), you may get some preference for admission.

[SJSU Admission](http://info.sjsu.edu/web-dbgen/narr/admission/rec-1201.html) has more information.

So basically im screwed then and the only place i can get into is SJSU

either you apply to lower-ranking CA state schools or start out in community college. i think your GPA is too low for a lot of these schools, but definitely try.

about the community college-- remember you can always transfer out at some point. the best of students get to transfer into SJSU, the UCs, etc. I know of a guy who moved over from China in 10th grade and knew absolutely no english. he went to de anza community college (actually one of the best in america) and transferred out to SJSU.

you can definitely do it if you try! best of luck.

If you are a California resident, and attending a CC in California, then you’ll have a good chance of transferring to a CSU, most likely to a CSU within your local district area. Here’s a link to a bill that was signed last September by the governor of California on college transfers.
