Im transferring from valencia college down in orlando, I really want to go to FSU but I have a low GPA, Did most of my classes via dual enrollment and I'm enrolled in 6 classes right now which will finish november/december.

Now I'm wondering is 2.75GPA with a AA enough?
and if I apply right now is there anything special I have to mention or check off saying my AA will be completed by december?

Currently UCF will accept me since they have a transfer program with Valencia, but I much rather go to FSU.

I believe the 3.0 requirement is if you don’t have an AA. Getting in without an AA is infinitely more difficult than if you have an AA.

It really will depend on your major. If you are applying to a limited-access major, a 2.75 is probably not going to cut it. If you are applying to a non-limited access major and you’ve completed all of the prerequisites, you may still have a chance.

Definitely apply to FSU. There will be a place on the application to acknowledge that you’ll be completing your A.A. I just transferred here from Seminole State which is in Oviedo near UCF. I will tell you that the opportunities and professors I’ve encountered at FSU are far beyond the ones I saw/met at UCF when I was contemplating transferring there. This, of course, depends on your major. But, if you CAN go to FSU, I highly suggest it.

I got in with my A.A. and an overall cumulative GPA around 2.8 to a major that was NOT limited access. With an A.A., the minimum GPA is technically 2.0. You’ve got to have all the prerequisites to your major though. What major are you seeking?

It all comes down to if by the time you’re expected to enter FSU you have to have completed you AA and it really depends on if your major is limited access or not.
If it is a limited access major you don’t have a chance if it isn’t and you’ll have earned your AA then you’ll easily get in.
I applied for summer term (2012) and was expecting my AA in early May of same year. Got accepted even w a horrible GPA, helped that my major wasn’t limited access bc I would have definitely not been accepted.

Going into Business Management, I’m assuming its not one of the limited access majors.

Now here are my 2 options I’m brainstorming.
Technically I can have my AA by december and try to get into FSU (With a AA from Valencia I get guaranteed admission to UCF if all fails)

2nd option, I don’t get my AA in December, instead I transfer to TCC with 60 credits, take a course there and automatically get into FSU! (However I don’t know the rules about TCC and FSU, is there a gpa requirement or a classes taken @ TCC requirement ?

My only concern with 2nd option is for some reason they deny me, I don’t really have any GOOD college I can attend, TCC AA doesn’t get me into UCF guaranteed, but I believe a AA from TCC will get me into FSU (assuming they don’t have some gpa/ class with TCC req)

Now I’m really trying to go to FSU, I don’t care too much for UCF, but if all fails il go to UCF but I will still feel that FSU would have been a lot better.

Also is a AA from Valencia better or a AA from TCC?, Honestly I’ve never heard of TCC and valencia seems to be pretty known throughout US.
thx

Honestly, FSU does not care where you got your A.A. Like I said, I got my A.A. from Seminole State, and no one ever asked or cared except when listing my previous institutions on my application.

I think transferring to TCC would be an incredible waste of time and resources. You can get in with your 2.75 and an A.A. just fine as a Valencia graduate.

Your GPA would not be high enough to get you into that major, no matter where you transferred from. It would take at least several semesters of straight A’s to bring your GPA up to what it needed to be, depending on your academic background. If you transfer in to a major that is NOT limited access, you will be just fine coming straight from Valencia. If you are dead set on Management, you may need to go to UCF to pursue it.

I’m pretty sure anything College of Business related is Limited Access.
So your chances are incredibly slim as you’ll be competing with people who have much higher GPA’s.

oh I see amanda has already shown the link, so yep it’s a Limited Access major. I wouldn’t give up complete hope though, try and bring up your GPA and show a huge upward trend. In other words don’t get anything less than A from this semester onwards at your CC.
I will add there is no option for Teacher Recommendations for Transfer Applicants so sadly there will be no boost or anything else they will look at apart from SAT scores just to see if they reach minimum scores as well as your GPA…oh and EC’s would be good as well.

Ok so ironically valencia had a college night today, where I spoke with someone at FSU, they said 3.0 on limited access majors is just about a requirement.

2.5 and above you will most likely (80%+) will get in as long as your not going into limited access program, they also mentioned you can’t just change majors?

I have all the prereq Classes required for BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION ENTREPRENEURSHIP, but I’m missing 1 prereq for RETAIL MERCHANDISING AND PRODUCT DEVELOPMEN.

If i go to FSU and eventually ask to change majors do you guys think its possible?, I really want to go into ENTREPRENEURSHIP.

My final term gpa will range from 2.8-2.9. but 2.85 is more realistic, now will they round up the 2.8? The main thing is this program consist of mainly people trying to get into it but I have setup a few business and actually got somewhere but since I’m just 18 I did have some issues and they business didn’t go too far, but I do have quite a bit of experience to back it up.

As far as I know, any industry experience you have as an entrepreneur will not help you gain access to the major. If you are one class short of the prerequisites for the Retail Merchandising major, you will need to take that class before you apply as a transfer student to FSU. So, be sure you have that factored in to your schedule.

We cannot tell you for sure one way or another as far as transferring into the College of Business. You will be fighting an uphill battle for two reasons:

It is a limited access major, as we have stated. Therefore, you will be subject to the stricter GPA requirements.

In order to transfer into a major, you must be current on the MAP requirements. Here is the link to the map for your intended major: [The Florida State University](http://www.academic-guide.fsu.edu/Maps/Mapentrep.html)

That means, if you transfer to FSU with an A.A., you are starting in Term 5. Say you take two semesters worth of classes and raise your GPA to something sufficient enough to apply to the entrepreneurship major. At that point, you need to also be on track to enter Term 7 of that major, which means having ALL the milestones completed for EVERY semester up to and including Term 6. This might be difficult to do while simultaneously meeting the mapping requirements for your Retail Merchandising major.

That said, it isn’t impossible. However, if I were you, I would weigh out the pros and cons of attending FSU vs. possibly graduating with a degree in Retail Merchandising rather than entrepreneurship. There is definitely a chance that the College of Business will deny you.

I’m trying to give you as much information as I can, as I faced a very similar predicament. Fortunately, it worked out for me pretty well, but I was not attempting to transfer to a limited access major.

If I were you, I would get in touch with advisors at FSU who could help you make this decision. I wish you the best of luck.

If you major in Retail Management at FSU I think you can get a minor in business additionally by taking just 2 or 3 extra general business courses at FSU. You could get the Retail degree with the business minor, then work in retail a couple of years after getting your bachelor’s and getting some real world business experience, then go back to graduate school and get a master’s in entrepreneurship, and after all that, get back into the real business world and create a business empire bursting with money going into your pockets. Nothing to it!

Papertiger - I don’t know for sure, but I don’t see why not. As long as you apply for the second major with the proper prerequisites and they accept you, I’d think you’d be able to do so. You could always email the undergrad advisor for that major. I’ve spoken with several different advisors in various departments, and I’ve found them all to be very helpful. :-)

Oh! Gotcha. Yeah, I don’t think that would solve any of his problems though because he still faces the uphill battle of getting his GPA up and it would just take him much longer to graduate.
